<Press space to navigate through the project> Heyo Folks! Its Banana Boss here, or @bodi3 as you know from my main account ^^ One thing always asked from me by my followers, is an animation tutorial. Since I'm a bit too busy to create one - unfortunately - I decided to make this project showing my process of animating a scene I created for my "Pompeii!" animation. You can watch the full "Pompeii!" animation here - https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/673890545 Each and every animator has a slightly different workflow from each other. So, while this is how I create my animations, another animator may use or prefer a different method. Also, keep in mind I'm a SELF-TAUGHT animator using Scratch 3.0. I'm not a professional animator ^^" Since I'm self-taught, I wasn't aware of the technical terms in animation (like keyframes, tweening, fps, etc) until much later. So I tried to keep the steps simple using words associated with the Scratch 3.0 Editor. Also, the character I've animated is my persona OC, Banana. Specially note that all costumes of the animation all belong to one sprite. 1. Main costumes. (keyframes) Basically, what I do in this step is create two costumes, one showing how the animation should begin, and the other showing how it should look at the end. 2. In-between Costumes for Arm movement (Tweening) The first keyframe shows Banana's arm set down, while the last keyframe shows her arm holding the headphone. In this step, I create new costumes (frames) in between, starting from the first keyframe - building upto that final keyframe of her arm, with her hand holding the headphone. 3. Adding Head movements Picture yourself doing the same action Banana is doing. Just as your arm moves, your head would move a little bit too. So, in order to make the animation look more natural, I decided to add a little bit of head movement as well to each costume. 4. Adding facial expressions This is done in an effort to make the animation more lively, since Banana is a living & breathing character like us, her expressions would change according to her mood and movement. So, like what I did in step 3, I added some facial expressions to each costume. 5. Adding lip sync. If you've watched the "Pompeii!" animation, you'd know that Banana is removing her headphone to speak to her friend Ashane. So, as the final step, I added some extra costumes of her removing one headphone while saying "hey!" And that's it! As I mentioned earlier, the hand & head movements along with facial expressions and lip sync were all animated in one sprite. Feel free to go inside to see how I've done it, and to see how the coding behind the fps works. Before I wrap things up, let me talk about some animation "myths" here on Scratch. --- Myth 1 : Realistic Animation can't be done on Scratch. WRONG! Just go to my main account and be surprised xD I focus on animating in realistic styles. Many believe that realistic animation isn't possible on Scratch and limit themselves to stickfigure animations, instead of pushing the boundaries and trying something new. Let me tell you, realistic animation is TOTALLY possible. You just need practice and patience, AND creative knowledge to try something new. --- Myth 2 : I can't animate because I'm not a good coder. That is NOT an excuse, my guy. Animation isn't about coding, its more centered on graphics. On Scratch, as long as you have knowledge on how to code a basic script to change costumes, that's all you need to know to kick-start your animation journey. --- Myth 3 : Scratch is a weak program Nope. YOU just don't know how to use Scratch properly. Scratch - especially Scratch 3.0 - is a VERY powerful program. On Scratch, you don't have to redraw every other frame because Scratch Vector allows reshaping. You can also divide different parts of your animation into sprites and focus better on detail. In other animation programs, you must have a constant frame rate in the entire animation, but in Scratch you can manipulate the frame rates through scripts and coding. --- And that's it! Yes, now we can finally wrap things up xD Thank you very much for viewing and reading. If you have any questions, ask them on my main account . I'll see you there! ^^ Animation : () Art : () Music : Bastille - Pompeii instrumental version. If you use anything in this project, CLEARLY give credit to me as wherever you use it. q(≧▽≦q)
