the C-131 Samaritan was a light transport produced by Convair to replace the Douglas DC-3 in USAF cargo service. This versatile lane was used for many things, including being the first gunship testbed and "vomit comet" astronaut trainer. however, the type was not as successful as its WWII rival and was mostly only used by national guard and coast guard operators. more here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair_C-131_Samaritan
