TW: d3ath A dog was running through the woods. Five angry huskies chased after her, howling for b/00d. She had stolen something from them. It was the large blue crystal that glittered in her paws. She was fast, but the huskies were gaining on her. She could see the lights of her cabin in the distance. She would be safe... The huskies burst out of the trees. The largest stepped forward. "Give us the crystal and nobody gets hurt," The small brown dog took a step back. "I won't," She looked behind her and saw the edge of a sheer cliff. The dogs started closing in around her. She had no choice. She threw a small blue object across the snow. The dogs scrambled after it. One picked it up. "Hey," he called, "This isn't a crystal!" He lifted his paw up to show a blue flower lying on the ground. The brown dog grinned. "You're right. It's not. And you'll never get it." She jumped. By the time her lifeless body hit the ground below the cliff, the crystal's light had gone out. Its magic had d1ed with her. Nobody noticed her son in the cabin, waiting for a mother who would never come back. ~5 years later~ Dusty padded through the snow on his way down the mountain. His mother had told him to stay away from the village, but picking a few berries wouldn't hurt, right? Besides, if it wasn't an emergency, then he wouldn't have gone over there. Because this was the cliff where his mother d1ed. He hadn't gone over here since then. As he filled his basket with blackberries, he noticed a light shining in the snow. Digging away the layers of frost, he saw that it was a blue crystal. And not just any crystal. It was his mother's. FLASHBACK 6 years ago Stella, Dusty's mom, lifted up her crystal to illuminate the room. "You see, Dusty," she whispered, "This crystal belongs to the spirit of the mountain. As long as this family has the crystal, the mountain will be safe. You will be the next guardian of the crystal. I was hoping your sister..." She trailed off. "Never mind. This crystal has power. Never let anyone else know about it. There are people who want to use this crystal for evil. Promise me that you'll keep it safe." Young Dusty lifted his head and met his mother's eyes. "I will," ~present day~ Dusty lowered the crystal. He had to get back to the mountain. Lifting his basket of berries, he started off towards his cabin near the summit. Suddenly, he saw something in the leaves. An all-too-familiar face emerged from the trees. Dusty dropped the basket. It was his long-lost sister.
