The rain pattered down his wings, his forehead. The salty liquid ran into his eyes, stinging them in the process. He hardly blinked. Hardly moved. Not even the dancing lightning in the corner of his vision would budge him. It was happening. The very moment he dreaded since he was little. Everything he had worked so hard to hold onto, was being threatened by the hands of creatures that crawled from every dark crevice imaginable. He hadn't yet transformed, the pressure of the situation made him forget which form he was currently in. The other soldiers had already adapted to the fight, turning to large feline-esc creatures no smaller than a tiger. Appropriate for the enemy, he assumed. He stared at the forest, ungodly still. When was the last time he blinked? He assumed it was at least a minute, his eyes were dry and stinging from the rain. "Relax, Alto." A smooth voice cooed from his right. Alto looked at the captain, regardless of the form she's taken, she was always the biggest. "You should transform, it's unwise to change in the heat of battle." She hummed. Alto nodded, lowering from standing vertical to crouching low to the ground. Warmth swept across his back, through his spine, into his skull, and finally through his skin. It was always an odd feeling- not unpleasant, but something he always dreaded. He never understood why that was. He shook out his now long coat, extending the wings cooped under the back of his skull and the pair near his pelvis. The rain felt lighter thanks to the fur, and for a moment it was actually peaceful. Until the ground shook. "Stampede, get ready!" The captain screeched over the now blistering rain. He could feel warmth against his skull again as he activated his halo, the very item that gives them the strength to fight. He examined the forest line, as it burst with dozens of swarming, disgusting creatures. Their blood-curdling screeches made him tense, he dug his claws into the ground, tensing the muscles down his body. A swarm of black and a hum of screeches soon surrounded him, he lost sight of his captain, other soldiers were calling out phrases, war cries. A golden, misty ring formed around his body, he pulled his upper lip back, starring a creature in its black, soulless eyes.
