Chapter 1: I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was a squirrel, but the size of a bear! It was the weirdest thing I had ever seen. Then, I woke up. It was just a dream. "Hey! You're awake!" My brother, Nightkit said. I got up and began licking myself. "Yes, I am awake," I said to Nightkit. "Well, if you ARE awake, let's play!" He said as he pounced on me. I retaliated by biting his ear. We play-fought for a while, then decided to get some fresh-kill. Nightkit chose a woodpecker that our father, Silverclaw, had caught. "Wow, dad got really lucky!" Nightkit said. "Yes, he did, but you still have to share!" I replied. After a little more play-fighting, he finally agreed to let me have some. "Thanks!" I said. "I've never tasted woodpecker before. I don't think anyone but us ever has!" He stared at me with a look like he wanted so bad to explain that other cats in fact HAD tasted woodpecker, and that we weren't the only ones, and then tell me that I was wrong in so many ways that I would join StarClan then and there. But he didn't. Instead he just said quietly, "Yeah, maybe." I smacked him with my paw. "C'mon, let's go play," I said. "Sure, I guess," he said. And then we went and played. Chapter 2: A few moons later... "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Highledge!" That was our leader, Riverstar, calling a meeting. As the cats surrounded the Highledge, she continued. "Nightkit, Shadowkit, come forward." We looked uncertainly at one another, then walked forward. "Shadowkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed." My eyes widened with surprise and happiness. "From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Shadowpaw. Your mentor will be Streampelt. I hope Streampelt will pass down all she knows on to you. Streampelt," She continues. "Come forward. Streampelt, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have received excellent training from Lostwisp, and you have shown yourself to be an amazing hunter and a great daughter. You will be the mentor of Shadowpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Shadowpaw." My mother/mentor stepped forward, and we touched noses. After Riverstar made Nightkit an apprentice, and he had touched noses with his mentor, Webclaw, the cats started chanting, "Shadowpaw! Nightpaw! Shadowpaw! Nightpaw!" My mother and father were loudest. And as I listened to them all, I knew I was ready to begin my life as an apprentice.
