TW FLIPPING OFF PLEASE DON'T REPORT ME)) Lily followed me into the woods, smiling giddily and collecting various leaves as we went. Unbeknownst to her, what waited wasn't anything to be giddy about. She wore a beautiful green dress that left a trail in the dirt behind her, due to the long skirt. Her bodice didn't even look like a dress, but just some silk wrapped around her, leaving gaps for her pale shoulders to show. When she reached up for a new branch, her dripping sleeves left bare she perfect yet tiny arms. Her simple beauty defined her - well, that, and her long, dark hair. She was 15, and I, 16. She still had so much to learn about the world we were living in. When a prince or princess turned 16, their gift to them was a gift of knowledge. The knowledge to whip them into a successful ruler. Normally, a kingdom only has one or two rulers, the king and queen. In our kingdom, there were two kings and queens. Long ago, our forefathers decided it to be that way. A child wouldn't know why until they turned 16, until they earned the right. I was the eldest child of King Larsest, heir to the throne. Lily, on the other hand, was the spare to the other ruler, King Draconen. Her older brother, Emery, would rule the throne in place of his father one day. As tradition goes, him and I would be crowned on the same day. In my opinion, Lily should never be given the knowledge I was given eight months ago. Since Lily is the spare, she would have no use for it. But the monarchs, ever the rule followers, kept with tradition, no matter how hard I pleaded. "Addie," Lily asked. "Where are we going?" "Don't you recognize it?" I asked, pulling away some branches that were hiding our clearing. Lily gasped. "Addie!" She said, pleasantly surprised. She ran towards the tree of our childhood, bearing our favorite swing. She sat on the swing, pumping a little with her legs. Emery cheered and raced to climb the tree. Being 18 years, you'd think he'd be more mature. "My one question though," she started. "Hm?" I said, walking over to her and sitting on her lap. "Why did we bring Emery?" "Because," I said, considering my answer. There were so many reasons I'd brought him. I needed his help, for one thing. Plus, he'd agreed with me about Lily. She was far too innocent to endure what we had to go through. "Because he insisted. He caught wind of me telling Ella about the surprise, and he wanted to see the look on your face. He wouldn't take no for an answer." I looked up through the brush and saw his eyes. He wanted me to get up and move around. Distract her from him. So I listened. I got up and did a slow circle around the tree, running my fingers along it. When I started getting back towards the swing, I called Lily over. "Look at this!" She came over to glance at my discovery. "A plus L? Oh Addie, I remember when we did this!" she exclaimed. I looked back up at Emery. He motioned for me to back up. I shrugged and gestured back at her. Her rolled his eyes and shugged back at me. "How old do you think we were Addie?" she asked, looking back at me. "Well," I said, looking back at her. "I was probably around 11, and you were probably 10 if I was 11." She looked back at the engraving, studying it. I locked eyes with Emery. He motioned for me to back away. I shook my head. I suddenly had second thoughts. I couldn't go through with this. I couldn't kill my love. Emery gave me a look. It said, "If you don't back up, I'm going to drop this whether you're there or not." I gave him one head shake. He flipped me off but I shrugged. I tucked my arm around Lily. "Do you remember when we realized we were both lesbians? How old were we?" I asked. "You were probably 14, and I was 13. Suddenly, this engraving had a whole new meaning to us." She laughed, making me laugh. She always had a way to make me laugh. Accidentally, I threw down my guard. I took my arm off Lily's shoulder and Emery saw his chance. I squeezed my eyes shut, screaming at myself for my mistake. He dropped his dagger, and so it fell, endlessly and effortlessly. Until the dagger stopped an inch away from Lily's head. She looked up. "Huh." She said. "Did you guys just try to kill me with a dagger?" Emery swung down from the tree. "Well," I started. "I didn't want to but Emery forced me to!" I said as quickly as I could. She turned on Emery. "How is that thing just floating above your head?" He asked in astonishment. "Oh this?" She asked. "I can do a lot of stuff. But my question is this: Did you, or did you not, just try to kill me?"
