----------------------------------------------------- AAAAAAAAAAAAH I got accepted as leader of Fan-fi! Thank you all so much! ----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Instructions: ~ Click the green flag to start ~ Put the project in full-screen for the best experience ~ Click each planet or its orbit to view that section of the leader application. ~ To exit each planet info slide, click anywhere on the screen. ~ Enjoy! ----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- My Writing Excerpt: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/post/6089824/ ----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Fun Fact: In this application, distances and relative sizes of the planets are not drawn to scale. However, the speed at which they move IS to scale, so if it seems that Mercury is practically moving at light speed compared to Neptune, that is totally intentional, and actually happens in real life! Also, due to the limited stage size, almost all of the planets will spend most of their time off-screen. However, if you wait a bit (or a lot more than that for the outer planets), they should cycle back in through the top of the screen. ----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Project Notes: When I first started designing my leader application for the July 2022 session of SWC, I knew I wanted an interactive format, where you could click on objects to view the questions and an informational section about the object itself. My first idea was to create a virtual botanical garden that you could move through by clicking arrows, but it quickly became clear that such a design would take up much more time and energy than I had. That led to my second design, a moving model of the solar system. It took quite a bit of time to figure out how to make the planets orbit the sun, but with a bit of parametric equations (don't ask XD), I managed to rig a quick system for the planets, calculating how fast the planets needed to go. With the help of reference images, I then set to the task of drawing (and re-drawing) the planets in FireAlpaca. I learned quite a bit about how to apply lighting and texture, and figured out how to use the watercolor brushes to get the stripes, spots, and other designs I needed to change the planets from flat blobs to spheres floating in space. Then, onto some more code brainstorming as I made a light-up system for the rings, and figured out how to have a floating label without making the project lag too much. I then worked out a format for the planet info/question screens, and searched up stats and fun facts about the planets. All of the information is accurate, except for most of the nicknames, which I made up myself XD. Finally, with a lot of thought, I started to put in my answers to the leader application questions. Once I got the thumbnail finished, and made a few more finishing touches, the project was ready to share, after one month of work. If you read through all this, and went through the project, then congratulations, and thank you so much! If you are one of the SWC hosts or leaders, I hope you will consider selecting me as a (co)leader! Even if I don't get accepted, I look forward to signing up as a camper in July! :D Thanks again! ----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Credits: ~ art: 100% by me on FireAlpaca ~ code: 100% by me ~ music: Cassini - The Grand Finale, by Sleeping At Last ~ excerpt: concept, characters, and plot are mine; some elements taken from Wings of Fire by Tui T.
