d.i.d, also known as dissociative identity disorder, is a mental disorder that needs attention. many people, like my friend, have been called 'confusing', 'attention seeker' and many more. i will be covering these topics. disclaimer ; this contains subjects such as trauma, abuse etc. please click off this if you get scared/triggered by these topics. first of all, what is d.i.d? dissociative identity disorder is where 2 or more personalities are contained inside one person. you may say, 'oh i have multiple personalities too!', but d.i.d is different. from my friend's experiences, you change personalities by fainting/blacking out, accompanied by little to a lot of amnesia and/or memory gaps. d.i.d is a coping mechanism for those who have suffered through childhood (6-9 years) trauma. this includes abuse, war etc. i wont include everything, but many things other than family abuse can cause this. there are roles included as well. such include (note, these are from a carrd!) ; - the body (noun), the physical body that the brain, lungs etc refer to - fronting (verb) - being in control of the body - switching (verb) - another personality/alter taking control of the body - host (noun) - the personality/alter that is in control/does fronting the most - protector (noun) - personalities/alters who protect the body/host/other personalities + alters etc whether thats emotionally, mentally, physically - persecutors (noun) - personalities/alters who harm the body/host/other personalities + alters etc. persecutors often act out the peaks of trauma meaning it as self-defence. please note that persecutors are NOT evil, so please do not think of them as that way. it is important to note that when you interact with other personalities/alters, they have feelings, thoughts etc as well. can personalities/alters die? no, they cannot die. they can go through dormancy, but they cant 'die' what if a personality/alter is a different race to the body? this is common, but the original body may not use slurs from that race/culture/country when they are fronting, nor can they identify fully as that race. can d.i.d appear in adults? adults are fully integrated, so no. however, adults may have personalities/alters that come foward. are persecutors dangerous? no. please do not think of them as 'dangerous', 'evil' and such. they may come off as 'rude', but do know that there is a reason behind their actions. i hope this educated you:)
