welcome , students!! for the first lesson , we will be sketching anthro cats. keep in mind , it would be appreciated if you followed along with the lesson and remixed the project to give it a go ! alright , here we go! first, sketch a circle. It is recommended to use the circle tool, but it is also fine to draw it yourself! Next step is easy. Draw triangles near the chin, but erase a bit of the triangle as seen on slide 2 . While it depends heavily on what the character looks like , I ask you to make another triangle. The fourth step is furring the rest of the face, and I highly recommend curving the triangles as you go up. next , i add the ears. Make curves coming out of the character’s head. make two zigzags on the tops and bring a line back down to the head. Then, add hair on the head ! Go wild with the hairstyle, but don’t make it too long. After this, you draw the body. Don’t focus on the anatomy looking perfect! We have plenty of time to work on that later :] add construction lines and add a tail behind the character. There! You’re done with the sketch. - - - lesson 2 : sketching / drawing feral cats apologies for inactivity! Please set up any of the art / drawing tools you need. Like when drawing anthros, you will start with a circle. Next, add construction lines. Now, when you do these it is important that you know where you want the character to be facing. Without an idea of the personality, it may be harder to come up with a smart pose. Now, I would like for everyone to make a line down the canvas. You can make your character sit up straight this way! Directly under the head, make two short lines. These lines are the character’s neck, and therefore should not be made too long. [ unless your character has a long neck ( lol ) ] On costume 14, you’ll notice that I drew the fur on the chest. you are not required to do it the same as me, as there are several options ( you may search up some fur types if you want inspiration ). Now add the mouth. This depends heavily on the personality of the character. For instance, if your character is gloomy, you will probably want a different expression. I encourage you to play around with this as there is no wrong way to draw. Then, add the legs. This in no way has to be perfect to any extent! Then add the back legs and tail. At this point, you’re ALMOST done. Detail is not important during the sketch, so when I get into lineart you’ll notice that it will have more detail. Add hair or eyes, or both. Hair over the eyes is a life saver option if you are having trouble with drawing eyes, [ like me ]. Head over to a website other than scratch or turn down the opacity on scratch , and create another layer. It is time to begin lineart <3 - - tbh I forgot to take a few screenshots so I’ll just try to make this process as detailed as possible. When making a character design, I will not give too many hints because complicated character design is later. Anyways, I stuck with a more simple design. When drawing, I have some tips. - when shading something white, use light pink or light blue you can ask for more xD When doing lineart, I like to use colored lineart for a nice challenge. You just choose the fur color, move to a darker shade of the color, and boom! colored lineart. Since that takes me a long time, I used normal lineart. I’m not that great with making this process in-depth, so feel free to wing it. - - - alright ! welcome to lesson 3 , where i will try to have the process more in-depth qwq my career essentially is based off of this topic - complicated character designs . in the project , you will see an example of my work . now , here’s what you need to do . using the knowledge you already have from lessons 1 & 2 , you may sketch an anthro / feral cat or animal . you may also use a base , but i prefer you show what you’ve learned over the past 2 lessons just to see your progress ^^ i am a bit burnt-out and have some art-block , please forgive me for not doing a step to step this time ;0; study the piece of art for inspiration on accessories or search up a moodboard . one of the most important things about art is fuel , so make sure you have a bit of water / something to keep you going as you draw. ready ? draw the lineart over the sketch on another layer , and delete the sketch . now , take a look at the moodboard / pick a base color . fill the lineart with white , and you’re ready to start coloring . colorpick 6 colors from the Moodboard / pick 6 shades of the base color you have chosen. create another layer, and turn on clipping mask . pick the lightest color you have chosen for the fur , and use the technical pen to fill in all the fur with it . [ clipping mask makes it so that color cannot go through the lineart ] . [ + ]
[ + ] now it’s time to choose accessories . before going big like choosing the kind of tail , think about the character’s personality / what the character likes . i mainly start with hair pins / clips , so i recommend using something like that first . [ example - if it’s a blue gray / goth moodboard , think about what accessories that kind of person would wear ]. the big thing is to over-accessorize >:] choose the accessories the cat would wear , and think of things related to that accessory. [ example - stars could mean galaxies , which could mean constellations . ] once you have essentially come to the end of linked accessories [ or you’re too tired to keep going ] ,, think about placement . bows tied onto a tail , for instance . but if your character is kidcore , for instance , frequently placed bandages on the knees , face , and nose are good places ! as for hair clips , smiley faces and gummy bears ? you may ask if you require a theme in the comments / you simply have a question . after placing the accessories , you’re pretty much done . watermark the piece with your username , and send your try to me . dw , you’ll have plenty of time to try this again !! lesson 4 - color palletes <3 alright everyone , it’s time to make color palletes ! this will be a fairly short lesson, but if you have any unfinished sketches from lesson 1 or 2 , please do this part <3 first, I come up with the name for the character. [ go to the slide that says ‘Rosemarykit’ on it. ] now , come up with what that word means, and use it in a sentence. think of what colors and properties it has , and where it comes from . use those to determine what colors everything will be . if you need a more detailed description , lmk. lesson 5 - fur ! attempt to follow the terrible instructions I tried to write , or just ask me how :’)
