Thank you ^v^ ----------------------------------------------------------------- About a half-hour later they got to their destination. Bright Town was a place of noise, all different kinds of smells, and all the latest gossip. It was pretty much the most popular town out of all the towns in the land. “This place is PACKED with people,” Reese exclaimed, elbowing her way through the crowds. “OK, where to?” “This way!” Aspen beckoned her to follow. When they finally got there, there was what seemed to be a mercantile. It was a small brick building, with vines going up the walls. There were two small windows with glow lights strung around them. As Aspen and Reese entered the building, a little bell rang above the door. She heard a familiar voice say, “Ah, good to see you, Aspen! And who’s your friend?” “Ruby! Nice to see you too. This is Reese, she moved to Whispers Hollow recently,” Aspen said. “Hi there,” Reese said, waving. “Hello Reese! I’m Ruby; I’m the manager, cashier, stocker, and clerk here.” “Oh stars, no one has applied at all?” Aspen said, concerned. “Nope…but I manage! Now, what do you need today?” “Nebula dust, but are you sure that you’re fine doing everything yourself?” Ruby sighed. “Look behind you.” Both Aspen and Reese looked behind them, only to see nothing. “There’s nothing there,” Aspen said. “Exactly! Business has not exactly been…booming, so there’s not much that I must do.” “But doesn’t that mean that you’re not making any money?” Reese piped up. “Well, yes and no, Aspen comes here almost every day to help support the business, and my family has a carpenter store back in Brook Haven, it’s just that I’d rather work at a mercantile.” “Oh, but still, don’t-” Reese started to say. “Anyways, you said you needed nebula dust, so I’ll go ahead and grab a pouch. Be right back!” Ruby interrupted and disappeared behind the store. “If I were you, I wouldn’t bother her anymore about it,” Aspen whispered to Reese. “Why not?” Reese whispered back. “Because she doesn’t like admitting that she needs help.” “But why? Everyone needs help sometimes.” “I guess it’s embarrassing to her? I’m not entirely sure. Now hush, she’ll be back any moment.” And with that Ruby reappeared with a pouch of nebula dust. “Ah, here we are!” She exclaimed. “That’ll be three Cosmos, please!” “OK, here you go,” Aspen said, rummaging through her satchel for three Cosmos and slid it across the counter. “Thank you and have a nice day!” Ruby called out as they were leaving. “You too, Ruby!” as if there was such thing as a day. Aspen sighed as they took a step outside. “What is it?” Reese asked curiously as Aspen was lost in thought “You know, for a ten-year-old, you sure do talk a lot,” Aspen chuckled. “HEY, I’m ten and a QUARTER!” Reese said indignantly. “Plus, you’re only a year older.” “But that still makes me older,” Aspen grinned. “Whatever,” Reese sighed in defeat. “But still, spill the beans, what is it?” “I don’t know, I’m just thinking.” “About?” Reese questioned as she kicked a rock and instantly regretted it. “Ouch! They should really put a warning sign on these things.” “YOU’RE the one that decided to kick it,” she pointed out. “and I don’t know, just…things?” Reese glared at Aspen. “Oh, okay, FINE,” Aspen sighed. “so, basically, when I was born, the sun, I guess, disappeared? and then total darkness entered the world when it’s not night, and the moon and stars aren’t shining.” “Ooooh, that’s really creepy, like you brought the darkness to the lands.” she said in a dark and mysterious voice. “HEY! Don’t blame me,” Aspen objected. “plus, it sounds so much worse if you put it that way.” “Alright, alright, I was just teasing you, don’t be so sour about it,” she giggled. -----------------------------------------------------------------
