Elliot Hopkins (known as "Ellie" to peers [don't call him that]) He/Him =+=+=+= If asked, Elliot would describe himself as a "hopeless romantic." Not so much in the sense one would expect: that he is often heartbroken over unrequited love. Rather, he is helplessly drawn to the romanticism of old literature, history, and ideals. Although he has difficulty connecting with other people day to day, Elliot has no stronger love than his love for humanity. He strives to understand how people work by studying history and different schools of thought as they emerged and changed, and to him, the more you understand something, the more inevitable it is to love that thing. He finds comfort in uncovering facts relatable to his own experience in old works. Elliot often finds himself torn between a mindset of cynicism and optimism as he sees the both deepest cruelty and immense compassion humanity is capable of. More concisely, Elliot was (and still is let's be honest) a teacher's pet. =+=+=+= He's very well-versed in all those good classical subjects like Latin and the big philosophers and formal logic. He can be a bit of a pretentious know-it-all, naturally, and often feels frustrated by most other people's reluctance to discuss lofty philosophical topics. He will often walk around local art museums and stare at the exhibits with wonder and adoration for hours at a time. He speaks fluent Latin and French and is currently learning German in addition to English. He plays piano very nicely (especially if you really really like Debussy and Ravel) and surprisingly will play some uncharacteristically modern stuff if the lyrics are good He seems cold and unfriendly to most people, but that's because he doesn't trust anyone's conversation to do anything but be inane and exhausting. The cynicism coming through. Because of that he never really gives anyone a chance. So he does feel lonely sometimes ;-; He tends to be so wrapped up in his own thoughts that he becomes detached from the concrete reality around him and that isn't always good He makes his living with a couple different small jobs at his university, mainly running the library 4 days a week (his favorite), and managing the desk where people's schedules and stuff is recorded and,, managed The necklace he wears is actually a locket that opens. Inside is a tiny piece of paper with an excerpt from Horace's Odes- a set of Latin poems out of which the phrase "carpe diem" or "seize the day" originated. He keeps it with him as encouragement whenever he's feeling down (which is pretty often, sadly) Last thing I promise- he has a bit of a spending problem lol- Elliot has always had a certain appreciation for *ahem* 'the finer things' in life- some of which he can't exactly afford as a humble university student. He has more often than he'd like to admit gone hungry for at least a week after purchasing a particularly pricey .. plaid (tweed is more his style but alliteration demanded it ok- it was either that or p a n t s) He wears several rings and very nice sweaters and snazzy jackets and such- none of which were cheap =+=+=+= ok finally o r t 1) fullbody side view- he's pondering something deep no doubt 2) basic concept art I did.. nothin too snazzy. There is the locket open tho soo 3) animation! click it to animate :D I really like this one lol- very proud of the hair and sweater heh 4) EYY paper artt :DD Ellie just- chillin 5) rushed his hand holding the locket 6) partial face close-up thing 7) he got a pile o books 8) whole page (kinda hard to see but eh) =+=+=+= aand that's all! woah did you seriously make it to the end?? anyways I've seriously gotten way attached to this character lol- hope the description wasn't too rambley and I hope you like! all the art was made in krita btw aand it's midnight i i need to go to sleep-
