RT_Borg has a much nicer cross-fade project: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/721211525/ It's backpack-able and looks great! Demo project for fading one backdrop into the other. Press the space key to start the fade. Change the "fade count", "wait count" and/or "ghost step" variables to fade the way you'd like.
