Brightfern watched the medicine cat move swiftly over Puddlestone, putting a mixture of herbs on his wounds then covering them in cobwebs. Looking at Puddlestone's injuries reminded Brightfern of what happened just a few days ago. She walked out of the medicine cat den and towards the fresh-kill pile, recalling that day. ----- | + | ----- Brightfern had just come back from hunting when it happened. As she placed the rabbit she caught in the pile, Snowpaw came running through camp. "Badger!" She screeched in between gasping for breath. At that word, camp became chaos. Brightfern jumped up and heard Snowpaw's mentor screaming to leave camp. No cat listened to her and ran about, trying to grab the kits and huddle in the cracks in the rocks that the clan used for protection. In the middle of all the cats running was Snowpaw, who had fainted out of exhaustion. No cat seemed to notice the white cat in the middle of camp. /They probably think she's just a piece of fresh-kill./ Brightfern thought. She waited for another cat to pick Snowpaw up, but no cat stopped to save the apprentice. Brightfern raced towards the apprentice and picked her up by the scruff. Just when she picked up Snowpaw, the badger clawed into camp. Brightfern tugged at the apprentice even harder, but Snowpaw barely moved an inch. "What does she eat? Rocks?" Brightfern grumbled. Still, she heaved the apprentice a few inches. Then, the badger trampled over to Brightfern, its paw outstretched. She closed her eyes, ready for the blow, when she heard a furious growl from the badger. Brightfern opened her eyes and saw Puddlestone clawing at the badger. "What in StarClan's name are you doing?" She growled at Puddlestone. "Saving you duh!" Puddlestone growled back. "Plus, what would I do without my love?" Brightfern was stunned. She always thought Puddlestone liked her, but not like that! "I-I..." Brightfern stammered. Before she could finish, the badger slashed Puddlestone's neck. He collapsed to the ground, still breathing. Before the badger could turn to Brightfern, several cats pounced on the badger and clawed at its face. Surprised from its attackers, the badger stumbled back and fell into the brambles surrounding camp. The blinded badger tore out of camp, roaring loudly as it ran. ----- | + | ----- Tears formed in Brightfern's eyes as she thought about Puddlestone's injured body. She picked out a plump rabbit and bit into it. She thought of the words Puddlestone had said to her before he was hurt. The thing was, she felt the same way. But did he really think that? As Brightfern was finishing her rabbit, she felt a paw poke her back gently. She turned her head around to see who was there. Her eyes filled with joy as she saw him. "Puddlestone!" She cried. She leaped up and brushed her head against him. "Hello, beautiful." Puddlestone purred. "I love you Puddlestone." Brightfern purred back. ----- | + | ----- And that's all! I had lots of fun writing this story and coloring the cats! I colored it on Kleki! Terrible love story :P
