Please note that whilst I wrote the original writing it has been edited by the following people: @FireFlight, @camqfire-, and @jarkurrow. This is just a rewrite with a truckload more info, here's the OG: A group of knowledgeable, scholarly cats decided to form a group based on knowledge. Their goal was to give cats a safe haven for education, a sort of traveling circus / school if you will. However, due to an outbreak of mushroom plague, the uninfected portion decided to isolate in a cave. They cursed their gods for not saving or warning them, so the deities gave the cats of Cenote special gifts in the form of three elements: water, earth, and life. Rewrite: Many many moons ago, maybe even a century has passed since then, a small group of knowledgeable cats decided to educate other felines. They traveled far and wide, gaining members of their group and leaving behind students they had taught. The leader of the group, Olm, one day found a suffering cat in the woods. He was on the verge of death, with mushrooms growing out of his mouth. Olm took this cat back to the group and they all tried everything to heal them. But after a few days, the feline died and a cold silence filled the group's makeshift camp in sorrow. They left the body in the woods for any hungry predators, but to their surprise, spores began to grow wildly in the woods, and predators were found dead from the same kind of cordyceps. Soon, almost all cats they knew in the land were infected by these rapidly growing mushrooms, and it was named the mycelium plague. The remaining uninfected ran away, terrified of what had unfolded in just a few moons. After many moons of hiding and exploring, Olm loses faith in the gods, cursing them for letting them all lose hope. But just a few days later, the gods send Olm a riddle; Up where it is colder, opposite of larboard. Head towards me for a new home, head away and find your tomb. Olm, still skeptical, thanked the gods and went to crack this riddle. After many days, she found it. North. She and her group traveled for days until they were blessed to find a rainforest at the Ocean's bay, and a series of underground caves which they named their new homes. The gods, proud of the group, bestowed upon them abilities similar to their own, and the responsibility of keeping the elements in balance. Olm regained her faith in the gods and created rules for the newly named group, now called Cenote. One thing though, was Olm was paranoid. Because of this, she set up strict regulations when it comes to loners, and fungi-related names were banned. Thank you for reading, and people who helped with the OG, please state whether you'd like this as a replacement or not.
