space to proceed me, telling myself to make some str8 characters for diversity: you can do this me trying to make them: no you can't alright let me give you some backstory for everyone (in order of timeline I made up): First book I'm writing: Set in 1993. Nate: Nate was a zoology professor (and part-time secret cryptid hunter) at the University of Arizona. One day, he got a call saying that his great-aunt had passed, and that he has inherited her large home in New Hampshire. Curious to explore some of the most cryptid-inhabited states in America, he took a leave from his job and goes to New Hampshire, hoping to start a new life. When he gets to the home, he finds that someone already lives there, telling a similar story to Nate's. He eventually gives up and lives with the man, befriending him over time (and marrying him and stuff but we'll get to that later). Caleb: Caleb used to live in an old, shabby apartment in Keene, New Hampshire. He does not have a job, other than the occasional cryptid-hunting commission. One day, he gets a call saying his great-uncle had passed, and that he inherits he large home in Conway. Delighted to move to a much more monster-inhabited area, Caleb packs his things and moves to the home. He invites his friend Kat to live with him for the time being, which is about a week before a strange man knocks at his door, claiming he owns the home. they fall in love yadda yadda yadda Kat: Katherine lived in Keene all of her life, working the cashier at a store she doesn't particularly like. She knew nothing of the monsters that stalk her town nightly, and had yet to find out her childhood best friend Caleb catches them for a living. When invited to live in Conway with Caleb, Kat immediately agrees, not knowing she would have to endure Caleb falling in love with the strange man at their door. Second story: Present day. Pyrite: Pyrite never met their parents. They assumed they both died when Pyrite was a baby, but they knew they would have something, like a photo or even a name. Or an explanation of why they transformed into a horrifying monster ever time a strong emotion. Pyrite didn't have any of these things. They grew up in an abandoned shack in the woods, before wandering into town and meeting Juno and his twin sister, Eden. Years go by, and Juno and Pyrite just become better friends. Then it happened. The event that nearly drove Pyrite mad. The event that made Pyrite move to New Brunswick with Juno. The source of their deepest nightmares. Juno: Juno lived in Conway his whole life, enjoying his time with his sister and his dads. He found out he was trans in his teens, about the same time his sister did, and was glad to have such a supportive family. And then he met the person from the woods. He had spent the next few years living with Pyrite in a New York apartment, until he fled for New Brunswick. Eden: Eden lived with her twin brother and her dads in Conway all her life. After finding out she was trans as a teenager, high school had only gotten more stressful, added on top of having to deal with Juno's scary friend. When she graduated college she had finally decided enough was enough. While Juno and Pyrite were living in New York, she took her engineering degree and built herself a cabin in New Brunswick, finding a community of other engineers. Life was a bit easier for her then, until her brother and his companion (who was obviously in love with him) asked to stay in her cabin.
