(Mods, if you want to skip the boring stuff, look for this symbol, ∆, which starts the actual gamemaker) ^°Planning°^ Pyrite stared up at the clock as it ticked down the seconds until her gamemaker. She would be the first for District 7, and her fellow members were eyeing her warily. The rest of the tributes had come out covered in a fine mist, windswept and dazed. She had sent in a few Avoxes earlier to make sure that what she needed was set up. It took a few minutes longer than she expected, but eventually the speaker's scratchy voice rang out. "Pyrite Nemesis, District 7." ^°Necklace of Flames°^ Pyrite pushed open the door, getting hit with a wave of cold. She blinked, adjusting her eyes to the dark. A rickety metal staircase led upwards, and she climbed it. Pyrite was actually rather pleased to see that all of the equipment was suspended off of the ground. She turned to the gamemakers, a larger breeze scuffing her toned fur. She was slightly surprised to see a larger chair with the unusually silent capitol cats. "President Imperium. What a pleasant surprise." Pyrite purred. "I haven't seen you since, oh, the Cooper's trial, wasn't it?" President Imperium stared back maliciously. "Why yes. Good times, good times. Now, Pyrite, would you care to show us what you plan to do with that equipment those Avoxes restlessly set up for you?" His words slid off of his tongue like a snake. Pyrite nodded. "Yes, of course. Thanks for that, by the way," she turned to the Avoxes, who stared back, scared. Pyrite was trying harder to be nice to the Capitol scum. They had docked points on her parade for being rude. She wouldn't let that happen again. "Now, Ma'am, you own a gold-jeweld necklace, correct?" Pyrite pointed to a gamemaker, who nodded nervously. "Well, would it happen to be this one?" Pyrite pulled out a golden necklace trimmed with rubies and sapphires. The gems were dull, but the gamemakers couldn't tell that from where they sat. The she-cat gasped. "My necklace!" She cried. Pyrite dipped her head. "Don't you worry, ma'am. You'll have it back safe, I promise." She nodded to the suspended course the Avoxes had set up. "After I run this precious piece of jewelry through the course." President Imperium watched as she pointed to the dark course. "Not to be rude, except for the fact I do, but it looks rather, what's the word... Dull. Don't think your going to get a 12 for that, Ms. Nemesis." Pyrite merely smirked and nodded to the nearest nervous Avox. The cat flicked a switch, which lit up the course blindingly. Rings caught fire and boards fell away, leaving holes in the floor. Pyrite frowned, seeing the layer of mist over the course. That would make it much harder. Imperium nodded, a sly smile crossing his face. "Well then, Pyrite Nemesis." His icy voice seemed to slither across the room. "May the odds be ever in your favor." ∆ ^°The Course°^ Pyrite stepped to the edge of the platform she was on, the wind threatening to dislodge her slender form. She took a deep breath, making sure she had a good grip on the necklace. She could almost hear the heavy breathing of the she-cat to whom it belonged. /Now/. Pyrite leapt off the platform, gripping onto a slick metal pole suspended a few feet off the wall. She tightroped across, her paws slipping a little with the wet mist on the pole. She managed to get to the other side, jumping off and grasping onto a rope. /Snap/ The second she gripped the woven rope, it set fire at the bottom. Gasps were heard all around, except from President Imperium. His gaze merely drifted to her as she spun off the rope and through a hoop of fire, landing on a wooden platform. The boards began to give way under her feet, and Pyrite dashed across, leaping across gaps and keeping distance from the crumbling bridge. She skidded onto a metal landing just as the rest of the bridge fell. It took a minute to catch her breath, but in the meantime, she held the necklace up for inspection. It still shone in the firelight, still intact. "Is that the end of your show, Ms. Nemesis?" Imperium asked coolly. Pyrite grinned. "Not even close." She took a breath. This next part would be the most dangerous, one that could cost her everything. "A tribute's greatest weakness is their inability to sense their surroundings in uninhabitable areas. I have perfected this, and would like to demonstrate." She grabbed a plain black blindfold and wrapped it around her eyes, cutting out her sight. Imperium laughed. "Let's see about that." Pyrite felt in front of her and grabbed a single silver dagger, a little smaller than the one she used during her parade. Still unable to see, she stepped onto the clear landing in front of her. It was made entirely out of glass, making it almost impossible to see where the platform ended while you had vision. Pyrite didn't even have that. She pricked her ears, hearing the fizz of machinery as holograms buzzed into existence on the glass. +
+ Only the soft growls and slight fizz of the projecters made any sound. Pyrite stepped forward and lashed out with her blade, taking down hologram after hologram. There were hundreds, and she fought them back, one after another, all while blindfolded and clutching the necklace. Then, what she had feared came into play. Pyrite had stepped to the edge of the glass, slipping over the edge. She grasped the corner of the glass, her blade clattering on the ground below her. The necklace began to slip, covered in sweat. The winds blew harder, sweeping her fur to the side. "Looks like Ms. Nemesis misjudged her strengths. Just like her poor parents." At this comment, a burst of angered adrenaline burst through her. She hauled her self onto the glass, sweeping out with her claws and knocking out another dozen holograms. Pyrite swiftly made her way back to the end of the course, finding her footing on another metal island. She ripped off the blindfold, her paws dripping with sweat and mist. The holograms flickered out of view, and Pyrite turned to the gamemakers. "Impressed?" ^°Deception°^ The gamemakers seemed awed, blinking in surprise. Even Imperium seemed remotely impressed, but didn't make a comment. The she-cat to whom the necklace belonged, however, had other ideas. "Can I have that back now?" She spat, pointing at the necklace. Pyrite set the necklace down. "You see, in the games, a tribute's best asset is deception. You have to make cats see what they want to see. Or, in this case, fear to see." She looked up. "Ma'am, if you were to look in your bag, I do believe you would find your real necklace, not this plastic one I have here." The she-cat gasped, startled. She was holding her necklace, in all of its gold glory. "But how?!" She said, speechless. All the while, Imperium watched her carefully. "Very well then, Ms. Nemesis. You are dismissed. Thank you for the show. The Avoxes can clean up." Pyrite shook her head. "No, I've got that too." She flicked a switch, putting out the flames and moving the platforms back to the floor. The Avoxes seemed as though they were suppressing cries of relief. "Thank you for your time. And may the odds be ever in my favor." Credits: Imperium: @Soup-7 Pyrite: Me Born for This: The Score
