intro: apples plant academy in a cute handwritten font and sporkles 1: hi! welcome to the plant academy! you are currently on: the (ultra condensed) basics, photosynthesis, part one what is photosynthesis? photosynthesis is the process that plants use to make food! in simple terms, its when plants take co2, water, and sunlight, adn turn it into sugar, that they use, and oxygen, which they get rid of. the chemical equation for this is 6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2 -- 6 molecules of carbon dioxide plus 6 molecules of water makes one glucose molecule and 6 molecules of oxygen. this process is also some of the reason plants are so important, because without them we wouldn't have any oxygen 2: how do plants do this? plants are pretty much built for photosynthesis- literally! theres a lot of parts that were made for this process. first, theres the xylem, which helps the plant absorb and transport water. then theres the chloroplasts, in the leaves . these have chlorophyll in them, which absorbs sunlight. then theres the stomata, also in the leaves, which help the plant absorb co2. those get sent to the chloroplasts, which combine them into oxygen adn sugar. the sugar is stored for use, while the oxygen gets released into the air. 3: photosynthesis fun facts :D chlorophyll is what helps plants absorb energy from the sun, but its also what gives them their green color! which is also why they turn orange in the fall -- since the chlorophyll starts breaking down.
