Hi! These are some desserts from around the world. This took me a while so I hope you like it! I included where each dessert originated from, where it can be found today, and where it is generally eaten. Some of the results were kind of surprising- who knew that cheesecake was originally found in Ancient Greece? Press space or the right arrow key to go to each blockshade. 1. Macarons: a well known French dessert, macarons are an almond-based cookie/pastry typically filled with jam, cream, or other fillings with a crunchy but fragile exterior. However, they originated from Italy! 2. Kolaczki: found in Poland, the Czech Republic, and many other countries, kolaczki are sweet pastry-like cookies filled with your favorite jam (or sometimes other fillings). They are delicious with a flaky pastry, sweet filling, and sometimes a dusting of powdered sugar! 3. Cheesecake: surprisingly coming from Ancient Greece, this thick and creamy dessert is a hit in lots of places, especially the US! With a crumbly graham-cracker base, the sometimes-layered, pie-cake-cream-like cake doesn't taste like cheese, contrary to popular belief. 4. Gulab Jamun: this sweet dessert is the national dessert of India and is loved in many countries. Gulab jamun is coated with a sweet syrup, but has a melt-in-your-mouth texture. It tastes great, with a vanilla-like aroma. Usually served warm, gulab jamun is a milk-based soft ball of deliciousness. 5. Koeksister: pronounced "cook-sister", koeksister got it's name from Dutch settlers, although it is from South Africa. Covered in a sticky-sweet syrup, this fried dessert often has traces of cinnamon, ginger, and lemon. The Afrikaner version is a crunchy braided donut! This is probably one of my favorite projects, mostly because I love writing and food, so writing the descriptions made me feel like I was writing a dessert blog. I look forward to eating koeksisters or kolaczki, having been lucky enough to eat all of the other desserts on this (sadly short) list. Let me know if you want a Part 2!
