In Petrichorclan, kits remain unnamed or are called by nicknames until the first storm after, or during, their birth. The weather when a kit is born is viewed as an omen of their life. A sunny day shows strength of heart, a storm shows that the kit will be powerful and has great things awaiting them, fog is a sign that the kit will be skilled in the art of stealth, hail is a sign the kit will grow into a strong warrior, and snow is a sign that the kit will be a skilled healer. It is traditional for apprentices soon to become warriors to act as "Stormrunners” instead of having a vigil. They run through the territory as a storm is approaching, being as loud as possible to "attract the thunder". They are allowed to return when lightning lights up the sky. This is a way for apprentices to gain the storm's power in their paws, and they will then be made full warriors upon their return. When courting, it is traditional for partners to stay the night in a storm before they officially become mates. When a cat dies, they are honored and buried. At the first storm after their death, those close to the cat venture into the territory and make noise, shouting, and yelling the deceased’s name. They spend the night “sending off” the cat as they “rejoin” the storm. It is believed that storms are gifts and that their ancestors in Starclan travel among the storms. It is told to kits that thunder is the pawsteps of their ancestors as they run the skies above, watching over them, and blessing the cats below.
