You are falling. A current of wind rushes around you, barely preventing your body from grazing the cliffside. You’ve been falling for so long that you’ve begun to enjoy the gentle swooping sensation in your chest as you close your eyes and drift ever further into the crevices of your mind. . . a minute, a century, it makes no difference, as the fall shows no sign of stopping. All of a sudden, your eyes fly open. You can see the bottom. It’s dark, shining, littered by jagged rocks and sanded pebbles. And you’re about to crash right into it. You hardly have enough time to scream, and your fists clench shut as you prepare for impact. The shock never comes. The darkness has returned. You frown, your stomach protesting as you realize you are no longer falling. Coming to a start, you jolt upright. You stare at the ground – or what should be the ground, but you can’t see anything. It’s just pure, deep black. All around you. “Oh. Another one. What’s your name?” calls a voice. It sounds an odd combination of cheerful and resigned. You spin to where it came from, and there stands a tall, brown-skinned girl, crossing her arms and waiting for your answer. Two others stand beside her, waving tentatively. “I – uh –” “Anyway, I’m Birdi. This is Moonlit and Kit. Welcome to the Rift.” The girl in the front says, smiling and beckoning to you before she turns around. Part of her dissolves into shadow, and you quickly step forward to avoid losing her to the darkness. “It's a place that exists only in your dreams, but escaping it is. . . not as easy as pinching yourself. Let’s just say you won’t be getting out of here for a while.”
A door opens. You see an odd-shaped figure stumbling out of the clouds. She is entirely made up of words and Rift matter - the words seem to express how she is feeling. She seems hungry, and also seems to think the centerscape is some kind of restaurant as she keeps babbling about wanting to place an order. You think it would be ideal to do her a kindness and cook up some words. However, the word monster is very picky and will only eat some kinds of words. Put on your chef's hats and be as creative as possible while still getting the word monster what she wants! ❧ ══════ CHALLENGE: The word monster will soon be placing an extensive order for words of all parts of speech, which you will find in the comments. Reply to a comment with a word from the indicated part of speech to satisfy that part of the word monster’s order. Each camper may contribute up to three words to the order, and the challenge will be marked as complete when all of her requests are satisfied. (It will become apparent what these words are used for at a later time :> These words do not count toward your word goal.) ══════ ❧ The Centerscape: ❧ ══════ Art by Song is an instrumental cover of The Sound of Silence
