every year more and more ice caps are melting around the world and we can't just stand here and watch our world fall apart. many animals are being put in danger because of us. polar bears can only swim so far before they need to rest on an ice cap but now there aren't enough left and fishing is becoming more dangerous for them.Polar bears are moving to land on the north coast of Alaska because the sea ice is melting and no longer connects to shore. This separates the bears from their preferred hunting grounds, the sea ice. With less sea ice, polar bears cannot hunt for food as often, and so they wind up with less to eat. seals also rest on ice caps but more importantly their pups grow up on them and jump off them when their ready to swim. These young pups are especially at risk for hypothermia, starvation, and being crushed by moving ice in the Arctic. Yearlings (seals between one and two years old) are also harmed by declining sea ice because their food is found along the edges of the ice. arctic foxes rest on thin ice on their long journeys north and whilst their asleep the ice breaks off, taking them far out to sea. over time the ice will shrink and will topple over, the fox along with it. you may think the whales can't get affected but they do. The reduced sea ice cover decreases the net reflectivity of the Arctic, increasing absorption of UV rays in Arctic waters which cause skin lesions in whales and reduce primary production. Emperor penguins depend upon sea ice for breeding, molting and feeding, so it is vital for their survival. Especially when breeding, the penguins also rely on a certain amount of sea ice that researchers call the Goldilocks zone. Habitat for the Pacific walrus in the Chukchi Sea is disappearing from beneath them as the warming climate melts away Arctic sea ice in the spring, forcing the large mammals to “haul out” of the ocean and temporarily live on land. While onshore, walrus are far from the ocean organisms they feed on. orcas evolved without a dorsal fin, allowing them to travel closely under ice to take refuge from faster predators. But with sea ice melting earlier, predators like orcas can potentially access new areas that they previously couldn't because of their large dorsal fin. And they hunt narwhal. hope you now see the threat of losing the sea ice.
pls read through it all as it is really important.
