This project lets you explore various ruled surfhttps://scratch.mit.edu/messages/aces (see notes for more about ruled surfaces) Bring your mouse (or tap) to the right of the screen to pull up a menu. Click the numbers to move between various surfaces. 1. Helicoid (Helix) 2. Hyperboloid (see what happens when angle =0, 180 or 360) 3. Hyperbolic Paraboloid (a doubly ruled surface) 4. Mobius Strip (a non-oriented ruled surface) You may also use quick keys Arrows to rotate, z to zoom in, x to zoom out.
A ruled surface is a a surface which is made entirely out of straight lines. In other words, at each point on the surface a line can be drawn through that point which stays on the surface. These surfaces tend to be very quick to render. For more info on ruled surfaces https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruled_surface For more info on each of the example surfaces 1.
