*some corrections and notes (thanks @Imacreamoo !) 1. did is only formed from childhood trauma 2. you can still split/create alters later in life “According to the structural theory of dissociation, every child has different ego states that require different things Around the age of 8 these ego states will intergrate to create a full personality. Because of truama the child's brain will have instead created dissociative barries to protect themselves. The failure to intergrate is what creates the 'alters.' These dissociative barriers remain up until the truama is capable of being processed. Because these barriers, alters will not be aware of what's happening in the real world while they aren't at front. This creates amnesia between parts. That makes intergration even harder as most people with DID will be unaware they are even truamatized, as other alters will hold these memories. Intergration is not something that can happen at random. It can only happen with truama work and lowering amnesia walls. DID is a covert disorder, with most people being unaware if themselves or loved ones have it. People with DID may not show any symptoms of PTSD etc... making it even harder to diagnose as a truama based dissociative disorder. Switches etc... will most likely not be obvious.” - @Imacreamoo dissociadid on yt for most of the info in the project.
