skate shrimp start their life cycle as eggs. A month later they hatch. after this, they become larvae. but this is the point the hydrothermal skate shrimp's differences show. Their eyes regress to being able to only sense light. and instead of having blunt claws, they develop sharper to cut other hard-shelled animals. As juveniles, they blend in with the vents until they develop bioluminescence as adults. As adults they find mates by sensing where the bioluminescence is on their body. Unlike most skate shrimps, they do not protect their eggs, but rather hide them.
