Society: - Live in villages in mountains - Wealthy members of royal families live in fortresses - Low-lifes and the poor live underground beneath the mountains - Eggs are kept in the hatching ground of the village - A few guards keep post at royal hatcheries - Citizens are allowed to protect the eggs in the village if they so wish - Children are raised by the whole village - Children learn to speak, read, hunt, heal, lead over time depending on their job - When children become juveniles and gain their crystal, they can be apprenticed - When they reach adulthood, they leave their mentor or continue to work alongside them, but they are no longer an apprentice - Adults may take on an apprentice if the leader in the area allows it - Adults may also take a partner. They may choose to magically change the color of one’s crystal to match the other family. - When they become seniors, they retire to live in a temple at the peak of the mountain - They are treated well and live the rest of their lives in comfort - Juveniles will occasionally prank them, but it does not go unpunished. - Punishments may include cleaning the waste, running errands for the seniors, time in the dungeon, removal of rank, removal of crystal (extremely painful), or death depending on severity - leaders are voted upon, however, only the royals next in line can be elected. - currency system wip Biology: - Eggs often have fur to keep warm - Children are born without crystals and tendrils - Children can fly and walk at birth - Children develop crystals beneath the skin - During puberty, the crystals grow out of the skin (very painful) when the crystals are finished growing, they are banded. - During puberty, almost all fur falls out for about 3 months - Fur grows back stronger and fuller at adulthood - Adults age slower than children and juveniles and peak in strength - Adults grow more tendrils for each additional century they live - Adults mate for life and can lay up to 4 eggs per year - They get weaker as they ended seniorhood. - Senior fur falls out slowly. When all the fur is gone, the crystal weakens and cracks, they loose their powers, and they have approximately 20 more years to live Beliefs: Most Faigyc believe in spirits that coexist with all life. That life must be respected in order to respect the spirits. The spirits seem to always fall into the categories: Earth, water, sky, ice, fire, light, and shadow. When Faigyc die, they are reincarnated. If they are lucky, (some believe only the wealthy can) they come back as a spirit. Not much is known about spirits, since very few can see them, but it is known that they are able to guide (not control!) the natural world. Religious Faigyc go to the tip of the mountain once a month to leave offerings for the spirits. These offerings may be food, medicine, herbs, treasure, or other things. Not all Faigyc believe in spirits, but many do.
