Gem began to stir. As she did, she saw the creature advancing on her. She flung her arms up in a futile attempt to protect herself. She waited for a blow… that did not come. Before her, stood a man with gold leaves on his head, white hair and a beard. A red and yellow beam of light streamed from his hands and held the creature at bay. Gem squinted at him. “S-Sausage?” she murmured. The red and yellow light grew brighter and the monster shrank back as Sausage used his full power. It let out a shriek of pain that subsided as it dissolved into the air. The blood moon was setting and the sun began to rise. As soon as it was over, thoughts began flowing rapidly around Gem’s head. Why was Sausage here? What was that creature? Were her villagers safe? All she could manage to splutter was, “S-Sausage! How did you- Was was-” Sausage reached out his hand to help her to her feet. She took it. Gem took a deep breath and collected herself. “How- how did you know I was in trouble?” “I saw the flash of light coming from your village. I came to see if you were okay. When I got there, you were unconscious and that thing was about to hurt you. So I had to intervene!” “Thank you Sausage, truly. But, how did you get here so fast?” Gem asked him. “Because I’m Zeusage!” he exclaimed. Gem raised an eyebrow. “Through the Nether…” Sausage mumbled reluctantly. Suddenly, Gem remembered what the Origin Master had said earlier. She still had no idea what or who the Wanderer was. “Hey Sausage?” “Yeah?” “Do you know anything about a ‘Wanderer’?” she asked him. “Nope! Never heard of him! Why?” he replied. Gem looked crestfallen. “Oh. Okay. Well I was hoping that you would know something about it or at least know where to find it.” Sausage thought hard. Then, he snapped his fingers and said, “Y’know what? I think I might know someone who could give you some information!” “Who?” “Shelby!” “Oh.” Gem’s heart sank. She had not forgotten how Shelby had murdered her as an arachnid. She was silent. Then, she spoke. “Thank you for all your help, Sausage. I need to think about this.” “No problem!” Sausage said cheerfully and he ran off, presumably back to his home.
