Meanwhile, Gem was pacing up and down her room. She didn’t know what to do. If she had to speak to Shelby, how was she going to do it? And what if Shelby didn’t know what the Wanderer was? Just then, the book began to glow again. Gem noticed it and opened the book to her page. The Origin Master spoke. “Hello, Gem.” “Um… hi?” “I see you are having some difficulties.” “Uh- yes.” “I can help you.” Gem was sceptical. She had only spoken with the Origin Master once and they seemed kind of suspicious. “You can? How?” she asked them. In answer to her question, a necklace materialised next to the book. “Put it on.” was the simple instruction from the Origin Master. Gem lifted it up to her face. There was a purple crystal fastened to it. It glinted magically in the torchlight. Hesitantly, she slipped it over her head and onto her neck. As soon as she did, a bright light burst out of it and encased her fully. She screamed and shut her eyes tight. She could’ve sworn she heard a flicker of a laugh as a wind spiral blew her hair about and knocked things off the shelves. When the wind and light subsided, Gem’s legs gave way and she fell to the floor. She was breathing heavily and she felt weak. She slowly got to her feet. She heard the Origin Master’s voice in her head, “Look in the mirror.” Confused, Gem did so. She gasped. One of her eyes, which was originally a deep green colour, had turned an amethyst purple and there was a purple streak in her otherwise amber hair. She heard a snigger in her head. She sighed. “I hate you so much.”
