I used the Colorless, Greycat, and Tempura boards. The past few years, I've read a bunch of art books on character creation as well as a lot of youtube resources. One guideline I've learned is that characters wear things based on their personalities, and this applies to real people too. Someone insecure with their looks is more likely going to wear baggier clothes than someone who is more outgoing, for example. A character's motivations will also affect what they wear. Does he want a lot of money? He might wear a lot of jewelry. Does he want to get fit? He might wear more sportswear than a regular guy. What a character thinks, feels, and acts will affect the way he looks, such as clothes and posture. But those are just guidelines! How old is 'old-timey'? 1950? 1900? ;_;
