An overview of US Wind Power electric power grids. Tres Amigas is an energy market hub using superconductor powerlines to interconnect the US three power grids to enable wind power to be utilized nationally. The power hub will synchronize power flowing between all three interconnects and unite them all into one system. Seasonal wind power in the US will require electric production and electric load balancing. Tres Amigas will allow for load balancing over the Eastern, Western, and Texas interconnects. The models shown will allow students to study the Tres Amigas solution and wind production in the southern plains of the US (KA, OK,TX, NM, CO). Students can use the models built in processing/java code (www.processing.org) to explore load balancing of a simplifed US wind power grid.
