Rexed coats can be found in other animals as well, such as horses, rabbits, and dogs. The thin cover of hair creates a tendency for greasy and oily skin; grease collects on the skin. Cats with normal pelts naturally spread out the oil along the hairs. Other than this, however, cats with Rexed coats are not any more or less likely to get sick than felines without it. The dominant gene generally leads to 2-3 extra toes on the paws, but there have been reports of cats with up to 28 extra toes. These can form on both front and back paws (more likely the front), and it is extremely rare to find a cat with extra toes on all four paws. Since nailbeds may fuse at birth, the extra growth can lead to pain, injury, and nail bed infections. It may also lead to irregular nail growth, such as nail overgrowth. The gene also provides some benefits, such as making it easier for the cat to balance, climb, and catch prey. Polydactyly, for the most part, is benign to a cat’s health overall. The dazzling light of the sun twinkled on the various items, each holding the potential to create anything. The small she-kit who sat next to the objects was hard at work, ideas of what they could become flowing. Janus had just made her way back from the forest, having gathered materials that caught her eye. Though the items and tools the feline possessed allowed for the creation of almost anything Jan desired, the kit was struggling to figure out what to make. Jan huffed as she dismissed idea after idea. At this rate, she would be sitting here all afternoon-- she couldn’t let that happen. Janus had a birthday to attend to, and the short molly wouldn’t dare come empty-handed. She stared at the crying hearts sitting atop her so-called ‘work desk,’ the plant she always brought to accompany her whenever she traveled away from home. “Dicentra Formosa,” Janus murmured under her breath, taking her mind away from the dilemma at hand. The purple stem stretched up to the delicate shapes of hearts that hung from the vine. Perseverance and time, preserved in the fruits of a plant. The moments of silence stretched on, though she only stared blankly at the plant for about a minute or so. Jan sat up suddenly; an idea had popped into her brain. She looked down at the splayed materials set on the flat rock-- she needed blossoms. And /more/ than just dandelions. Realizing she completely forgot to collect the sort, the kit set off to the forest once more. “/How/ could I have forgotten flowers?” the kit scolded herself as she slowed her pace. Jan scanned the forest floor in search of flora. Ferns, bluebells, primulas, and yellow oxalis all grew among the trees, and somehow she had missed them all. Finally, as the undergrowth on the path Janus tread started brushing against her low underside, a clearing was visible in the distance. As the short she-kit stepped into the lively clearing, she stopped.
It hosted all kinds of wildflowers-- anemones, baby blue eyes, chamomile, you name it! Excitement bubbled in the feline, as she had never seen so many beautiful pieces of nature in one place before. The ground was untrod, covered in willowy grass. The shrubbery that surrounded the sunlit clearing contained ferns, dumb cane, and bushes of polka-dot plants. “. . . Pteridophyta, dieffenbachia, hypoestes phyllostachya . . .” The diligent she-kit recited. The books she had studied for hours and hours contained plants she had only seen amongst the pages-- until now. As Janus scanned the area, the trees that loomed above her gave a sense of serenity, their leaves waving a quiet greeting in the wind. The once empty pouch Jan had brought with her was instantly filled to the brim with vegetation as she identified the greenery. The she-kit eventually made her way back the way she came, happiness surfacing once more as she remembered the brightly colored plants filling the secret clearing. The sight of her crafting rock snapped Jan out of her trance, and she remembered the task at hand: flower pressing. Janus had one week, and she could afford no mistakes. The short she-kit gingerly cut the foliage into sizable pieces, delicately placing them onto the sheets of paper set in front of her. She then folded the paper and positioned it between two heavy, flat, rocks. Setting the contraption aside, Janus got to work on her layout plan. She would place the pressed flowers upon a sliver of a willow trunk and fasten them down with sap. -ˋˏ ❁ [[ Activity ]] ⫶ 8/10 ⫶ -ˋˏ ❁ [[ Contacts ]] ⫶ I don’t feel comfortable sharing any information, so you can contact my friend @Miraqles- / @Fiireflies who is online often^^ ⫶ -ˋˏ ❁ [[ Identity ]] ⫶ Female (she/her) and Omni ⫶ -ˋˏ ❁ [[ Codeword ]] ⫶ Janus is a celestial door and I love her so much <33 ⫶ -ˋˏ ❁ [[ Other ]] ⫶ Nicknames: Jan (Pronounced ‘Yan’), + more if I can think of any^^ ⫶ ⫶ Fun Fact: Ianua, Ianuae, f.
