Notes down below ↧ -------------------------------- Story - --------------------- Scarleen gingerly picked her way down through the cave into the darkness, sour thoughts echoing in her mind. It had been weeks since blue wolf Amrin had gone missing. Now, Scarleen hadn't been a friend of Amrin's, but she had known the wolf and respected her. So it had been troubling when she had gone missing. Even more troubling that she had gone into the very caves Scarleen now warily made her way down to on a dare. Yep. That was right. Amrin was gone thanks to a dumb dare she had followed, or dare be ridiculed by society. Which was even more ridiculous, Scarleen thought. She didn't care much for the public and their foolish, biased opinions. And yet now she found herself stalking through pitch-black caves to find Amrin. "So, so dumb," she muttered out loud, her anger flaring up inside her. It was then when something seized in her, and she stopped, gritting her teeth as a mocking, luring voice arose in her mind. /If it's so dumb/, crooned the poisonously sweet voice of Akuji, the inner demon of Scarleen whom she shared a soul with. /Then how about you sit back and let ME take care of it/? /Um, HECK no/, was Scarleen's retort. She forced Akuji back down to the deepest part of her soul and continued to pick her way forward through the cave. And yet...something was off. She realized that quickly, when she started to feel like several people...things...were watching her. Scarleen stopped for a moment to let her vision adjust to the dark. And she nearly had a heart attack when she saw the dozens of half-lidded /eyes/ on the cavern walls. "OH MY NORTHERN WEREWOLVES!" she yelped despite herself, scrambling backwards. Akuji immediately rose up, suspicious and curious. It took one moment for the demon wolf to see the eyes and let out a string of colorful words. /Get out of that stupid cave if you treasure your life/! she snarled at Scarleen. Scarleen narrowed her eyes and shuddered. /No. Absolutely not. I need to find this wolf/. /YOU'RE LOOKING FOR ALASTOR? YOU ID--/ "Who is Alastor?" Scarleen asked out loud. She didn't realize she made a mistake until she felt a presence pop up at her side. Something leaned towards her and whispered in her ear, "Now, that would be me, darling." Scarleen jumped back several feet, spinning to see a dark purple wolf whose facial features were blocked out by the shadows of the cave--except for an eerie, pearly-white smile. There were splotches of bright pink-purple goop in its fur that made Scarleen shudder. The wolf--Alastor, apparently was his name--barked out a sharp laugh. "Ha-ha! Now, I've not scared a wolf like that in centuries! How delightful!" Akuji sputtered several curses out in Scarleen's head, and then told her, /Let me take over. You can't handle this wolf. He's too dangerous/. There was seriousness in Akuji's voice, and Scarleen was tempted to listen to her. "My, my, I've never met somebody quite like you," Alastor said, smiling as he stepped towards Scarleen in an eerily smooth movement. His grin widened. "Your soul is quite special. Or should I say...souls?" He laughed as Akuji rose further, snarling. "Hee-hee! Akuji, are you in there?" he asked, tilting his head playfully and letting one of his ears fall. /LET ME HANDLE HIM. You will never survive this encounter without me/, Akuji added darkly. Something in her voice convinced Scarleen, and she took in a deep breath, closing her eyes and letting her consciousness sink back. /Finally/, Akuji thought as she stretched forward. Scarleen's russet-colored fur melted to black, though the cracked heart painted onto her chest was still a bright red. Her eyes turned black, the pupils now red. Alastor--the punk--smiled widely at her. "Akuji, that's you now, isn't it? I recognize your face now. I see you've found yourself a new vessel as well." "Ugh, whatever. What are you doing, kidnapping wolves and making deals with them?" Akuji asked sourly. "By the way, you aren't taking this body or making a deal with it's soul." "I don't know what you're talking about." "Some wolf named Admin--no, Amrin. You made a deal with her, didn't you?" Akuji sighed, though his smile remained. "My, she was a blue wolf, wasn't she? Quite slippery, I admit, she was." His smile turned sour and dark. Akuji snorted. "HAH! You must not be as strong as you thought, Stori, if you let one go!" A snarl echoed through the cave. "DO NOT CALL ME BY THAT NAME IF YOU AND YOUR OTHER HALF WISH TO EXIT THIS CAVE EVER AGAIN." /Uh oh/, both Akuji and Scarleen thought. Akuji swallowed and narrowed her eyes, studying Alastor's unhinged smile. If she wanted to leave this cave again...she was either going to have to calm Alastor down... ...Or rid of him entirely. THE END
