This art piece is entirely traditional! Those cool lighting schemes were achieved through real life photography. And the highlights in the Dark version were added using a glitter pen >:D The only part digitalized software was involved in was when I increased the saturations and added some filters Now, I have a lot of things to mention about this DMCE, like that time I stayed up past 1 am to get it done. But before I do so, I must tell y'all a story! Recently, I've been observing the works of many artists. And I fell in love with the art style of illustrator Maxine Vee! Her style includes a lot of bright, pastel colours, and lovely sceneries! Inspired by her work, I decided I would try using brighter hues in my art too. Around the same time, my awesome mom bought me an art tutorial book about Painting Flowers with Pastels. And I was very excited to try it out, because pastels are one of the earliest mediums I started using, and they had bright, colourful hues - like I wanted! But then, there was a problem - I didn't have proper paper to paint on. I had a sketchbook, but it had white pages, and the tutorial recommended coloured paper. The only coloured paper I had were A4s xD Then I suddenly remembered this ancient scrapbook I had. My parents had bought it for me over 10 years ago, so I could take it to pre-school for collage projects. (It has been a long while since then cuz I'll be done with highschool somewhat soon :'3). Around that time - when I was a wee kid - we used to live by a great river. And during the rainy season, the tributaries would overflow and fill the catchment areas. Our house was quite far from the tributaries. But one time, during the year-end rainy season, a tributary flooded, and our house was caught in it. Thankfully, we evacuated in time. But we hadn't gotten the chance to evacuate our belongings. So when the flood finally ceased several days later, we returned home to find all my toys, books and clothes sOaKeD and deStrOyEd- The scrapbook was one of the only few books that weren't damaged to the point of un-usability. But even so, the pages were still soaking wet, and we had to lay it out to dry in the following days. It dried up fully, the pages unharmed but having lost their smooth quality. The paper was scaly and uneven, so my parents decided to buy a new scrapbook for me. But we didn't dispose the damaged scrapbook either. It has been with us for over a decade. And I decided that I would finally put it to use, by testing out my pastel painting skills on it! So, studying the tutorial, I managed to paint this really pretty, pink flower on my sketchbook using pastels. And when I was done, I was back in my pastel phase from last year xD And that was how I got the idea to draw 's OC for the 9k DMC! Now, you might be wondering how there is a glow-ey effect in the "dark version" of the DMCE. Like I mentioned before, that is because I used a glitter gel pen to add highlights xD They can only be seen properly if there's direct light hitting it tho :'3 You can see the glitter gel pen and the other gel pens I used to outline the piece in the 4th pic! When I photographed the entry in normal light, the cool highlights weren't so prominent. But then my eyes went to my window, and I saw this really cool light beam filtering in through a small gap in the curtains. So I decided to turn off all the lights and place the art piece under that one light beam to photograph it. I was awed to see how the highlights were HiGhLiGhTed (hahah get it? xD) by the singular light beam while the rest of the painting was in shadow. So I decided that I would put it first among the different versions of the entry. Because that way Butter's oc looked like she had glow-ey eyes in the dark OwO Now, to . What else can I say? xD You're an amazing artist, your style is adorable, and observing your work has helped me grow as an artist myself! You're an inspiration to me, and to many more! So, let me express my joyous congratulations to you for reaching the amazing milestone of 9k! I hope you enjoyed seeing my entry ^^ Ngl - I'm not too proud of the background because I couldn't make it as detailed as I had in mind >.< But I'm very proud of how the rendering on Butter's persona turned out! And my goal was to use bright, pastel colours in my art piece - which I achieved! >:3 Anyways, thank you very much for viewing this! I'll see you in my next project! - () or @/benjinara as you may know me on another platform ;D
