The arrows change the toolbar selection for items and characters, you can drag and drop the tags, put stuff in the trash, change the backdrop by hitting the circle and hit space to rotate objects and people, or change numbers to names. Name tags can be changed by hitting see inside, going to a marker, and editing the costume.
