Warning: Not like my other AU's Call me a sucker for Crossovers, okay? I absolutely love them. And this is one I've been formulating for a while now. There are two points in the Avatar timeline when this AU would start. #1 is when Aang wakes up from the iceberg; There's a bright light, a boy wakes up, and a Dragon tumbles from the sky. I prefer option #2 Shortly after the other Water Tribe Warriors leave. (in both cases I've been going off of the same starting point for Qibli as in my Wren and Sky adopt Qibli Au, He makes a run for it when Thorn shows up for the first time. Instead of going to the mountains however, Qibli gets sucked up in some spirit magic/animus portal thing, and finds himself in the Southern Water Tribe) Sokka is out hunting and then there's a flash and a DRAGON is standing there, looking shocked. the two just stand there staring at each other for a long moment, and then some Southern Water Tribe Murder Animal jumps out of nowhere and Qibli kills it out of reflex. Sokka's brain goes from: 'dangerous monster' to 'hunting companion/pet'. He manages to lure the Dragon back to the village with Seal Jerky and convinces his Gran-Gran and the other members of the tribe to let him keep the literal Dragon that fell from the sky. Thus begins the momentous task of training a Dragon. Qibli is very confused on the tiny scavenger that keeps squeaking at him. But there's lots of that delicious salty meat here, and he's not sure how to get home, so he stays. Qibli is smart, he starts to notice that different squeaks mean different things. He begins to realize that the scavengers have some sort of language. And so, he begins to mimic it. Sokka's face when he says, "Fetch the Boomerang, Dragon!" back at him is priceless. Katara treasures the memory of that moment for many, many years. Slowly they begin to learn each other's language. (And you can one million percent bet that Sokka and Qibli have the same running 'who's the pet' joke as Wren and Sky.) They become best friends. And Sokka was right, Qibli is an awesome hunting partner. Qibli adapts fairly well to the cold, he still curls up next to the fire under a bundle of blanket during the coldest nights, but he learns to actually enjoy the frigid beauty of the frozen south. And the Southern Water Tribe LOVES having a giant, friendly, scaly, heater. Gran-Gran mentions that some of the old legends say that the Fire Benders learned from the dragons. Katara decides Qibli should teach her. He does his best, but Katara isn't a Fire Bender, and neither really know what they're doing. Katara pieces together a few moves, but that's about it. Sokka and Qibli become a pretty good team, they develop a simple hand/wing communication pattern, for silent hunts and Sokka becomes quite good at throwing his Boomerang from the back of a moving Dragon. Then one day, nearly two years after Qibli showed up, Katara and Sokka go fishing, and find a boy in an iceberg. Aang has never met a Dragon that can speak before. This one looks a bit different than the one he saw with Kuzon. Zuko makes short work of the single Water Tribe warrior, disarming him and shoving him into a snowbank. The Dragon is a bit harder to deal with. "HA! Now MY DRAGON is going to EAT YOU!" the filthy peasant yells, as the growly, angry Dragon, leaps from behind the igloo, and tackles Zuko to the ground. The Dragon doesn't eat him though, it just growls a lot, until the Avatar shows up and agrees to surrender. It shows up again later, with the Avatars Bison and those two Water Tribe Peasants. Qibli can smell the bodies when they reach the Southern Air Temple. The scent is that of blood and ash, and it reminds him for a second of the Scorpion Den, just more faded. A hundred years dulling the smell and hiding it from his Human friends. When they get to Kyoshi Island, Qibli goes off on his own to hunt, Sokka and the others are gone when he gets back, but he follows the tracks and finds a village. Sokka has to run out in a dress to stop the Kyoshi warriors from attacking his dragon. (Qibli is NEVER letting Sokka live that down) Jet doesn't even get to blow up a dam in this AU. Dragons are very good at getting what they want. And what Qibli wants is to stop Jet. When Aang comes back with frozen frogs, Sokka asks if he made any new friends, Qibli wonders at his not-answer of 'I don't think so'. Bato is very shocked to learn that Sokka has a pet Dragon. "Actually, SOKKA is the pet." "Aang, why are you acting jumpy?" "Dude, you're a really bad liar." "OF COURSE, WE WOULDN'T LEAVE YOU! NOW GO GIVE THEM THAT MAP RIGHT NOW." Turns out Shirshu venom doesn't work on Dragons, their scales are too thick. Qibli never thought he'd miss the ice and cold. But it feels Good to be back in the artic weather. "JUST KISS ALREADY!" Yue and Sokka both blush and jump back from each other, at the roar from above. "ARG! Qibli! what are you even doing up here?!?" Sokka glares at his Dragon friend, who somehow snuck up on them.
"I'm scouting, it smells like ash for some reason." Black snow begins to fall. "Fire Nation" Yue still becomes the moon. Qibli eats Zhou and has mixed feelings over eating a Human, even one as terrible as Zhou. They head to the Earth Kingdom. Qibli almost eats General Fong (but doesn't). Qibli's Sandwing claustrophobia makes an appearance in the secret tunnel. Sokka has to deal with a slowly panicking Dragon as well as singing nomads. Toph LIKES having a Dragon friend, he's very warm, and nicer than most Humans she has met. When she a Katara fight he steps up and calms everyone down, before offering to stand watch while they sleep. Aang and Qibli put down two fake bison-fur trails, while Katara, Sokka, and Toph take Appa to find a place to sleep. After defeating Mai and Ty lee they go to help Aang. Qibli shows up as Azula strikes down Iroh, Azula barely escapes, surprised that the rumors of a Dragon are indeed accurate. (I'm not sure if Qibli being there would mean that Katara heals Iroh, what do you think?) Qibli is THRILLED to be back in the desert. The Sand Benders are not prepared to deal with a Sand Dragon. Appa is not stolen. Ba Sing Se makes Qibli's scales itch. He feels claustrophobic with all those stupid walls and rules. and there's an underlying feeling to the air that reminds him too much of the Scorpion Den. It's dangerous here and he doesn't know why. The Earth King is impossible to reach, and he thinks they're being watched. He also smells Jet somewhere in the slums of the city. for lack of anything else to do, Qibli tracks down Jet. and finds him obsessed with catching two Fire Benders. How on earth did TWO Fire Nation Princes get into Ba Sing Se undetected? Qibli manages to keep Jet from doing something stupid and promises to help him with some surveillance tips. Turns out Jet's not that bad when he isn't trying to flood a town of innocent people. Qibli also keeps an eye on Zuko and Iroh. He doesn't think they're a threat yet, but he decides to tell the others. Aang and Katara are both a bit freaked out, Sokka is too, but he's also curious on how two Fire Benders got into the city undetected. Toph goes to get some tea. Iroh recognizes the Blind Earth Bender Girl who keeps coming in. Zuko does not. Toph enjoys harassing the youngest Fire Prince. This goes on for a while until Katara goes to find Toph one day and finds herself face to face with Zuko. Zuko gets frozen to a wall, Jet rushes in to accuse him of being a Fire Bender, Toph yells at Katara for using her tea to freeze Zuko to a wall, and Qibli gets a headache. Zuko's been Blue Spiriting around the city and has some info on terrifying mind control secrets. He shows this to the Gaang (plus Jet) after a long conversation, and they decide to work together in order to stop the Dai Li (and talk to the Earth King about Eclipse attack plans but they don't tell Zuko that). Meanwhile three refuge girls arrive on the ferry, surprised at how easy it was to get into the impenetrable city. 'The key is the Dai Li' Azula says after watching someone who mentioned the war get dragged off. It will be hard to get to them as mere refuges though, perhaps she should explore different options for taking over... Convincing the Earth King is hard, but not impossible, Bosco the Bear likes warm cuddly companions, and Large Fire Nation War Drills are very convincing. Long Feng is arrested, and the Dai Li mind control programs come to a halt. AND that is all I have for now; I'll add more later. I plan to do the rest of Earth and all of Fire too. I'm also gonna do Team Avatar returning to Qibli's world in order to end the War of Sandwing succession (hey, they're in the business now, may as well.) Feel free to use this AU!
