Change the sliders to effect the forces acting on the ball. Background: Change the background of the sim. Water level: Change the water level to see how the ball acts when submerged and in the air. Air Resistance: Amount of velocity the ball loses in the air. The lower it is, the more velocity the ball loses. Water Resistance: Amount of velocity the ball loses in the water. The lower it is, the more velocity the ball loses. Volume: How large the ball is. Mass: How heavy the ball is. The ball will only float if its volume is greater than its mass. The greater the difference between these two values, the faster it will float and sink. This is because of density. The density of the ball is its volume divided by its weight. The water has a density of one. When the ball is more dense than water, it sinks. When it is less dense, it floats.
I learned about this in physical science class, it was pretty cool so I made a simulation about it.
