i love you, Sky, little darling. </3 Three little girls played with the little baby bunny, its fur white as pure snow. The rabbit bounced behind the hutch cages, hiding from the giggling girls in a game of peekaboo. Its tiny pink ears twitched, registering the sounds around them, its petite nose smelling the dirt, the manure, and the soft fragrance of flowers, a light breeze blowing through the summery green leaves of the trees above. A cat slunk through the shadows of the forest, his tabby coat a mix of umber, spice, and blood orange. His large, slanted green eyes glinted in the bits of sunlight offered through the leaves. He stopped, picking up the movement of something small and bright, tilting his graceful head.He padded forward slowly, his footsteps encased in the dangerous silence that flows from a hunter's paws. A split second pounce was all it would take. There was a flash of the fire-colored assassin, shooting under the hutch, the only thing between him and his prey a crumble of pine wood shavings. The baby rabbit's eyes barely had time to fill with fear, before sharp, strong jaws closed around its back. One of the girls screamed, diving to stop the cat, her attempt made a moment too late. She scrambled to her feet, frantically pulling at the cages too well fastened to the side of the hutch, her heart beating faster in horror, tears pricking her eyes. The other two girls came to her aid, the three of them yanking back the cages. The cat bolted away, deciding it wasn't worth it to stay and defend his catch. The girl gently scooped up the baby bunny's limp, tiny body. The shock caught up to her, and she choked on her breath, tenderly stroking its fur with a shaking hand. The rabbit's back was broken, its ears still, the curious, trusting look gone from its eyes. Blood stained a spot on its back, soaking into the soft, snowy fur. Its lifeless eyes were filled with a lurching hollow look, as shockingly blue as the sky it was named for. It was gone, its soul flown away on angel's wings. Just like that.
