First day of [heck]. That was what my father calls it at least. “ Excited for your first day of hell son?” Father asked me as he popped a cigarette in his mouth. I don’t understand the how cigarettes would appeal to anybody, they flood your lungs with smoke, could give you lung cancer and maybe even kill you. At my old school in Japan there were kids who smoked in the school bathroom because they thought it made them look “gangsta”. But they were usually caught and forced to stop. My father, well he is anything but “gangsta” and there’s nobody to stop a grown man from doing things that are unhealthy. And I “Ecstatic” I stated blankly. I don’t exactly hate school but I don’t exactly like it either. According to my grades I’m good at it though. So I guess it’s fine. He grunted in reply. Good enough for me. As I was walking to school I checked my phone. 1 notification from Giorno. He had sent me a photo of our dog Misty. She was licking his face intensely, he was laughing, his mouth was slightly open and his eyes were closed. His face was all scratched up though. Sorta like he was constipated. “Never thought I’d miss her licks :(“ I texted back. A few minutes later I arrived at school. I had been there before for orientation and locker set up but with all the people outside it was a bit overwhelming. I read the sign on the roof. “Welcome back cardinals!” With a drawing of a muscular cardinal below it. I chuckled, my old school didn’t have a mascot. And certainly not a very buff one. I realized I was blocking some older kids from waking in. I apologized and moved. To the side. As I walked into the building j noticed so many differences. The classrooms didn’t have as many windows as we did in Japan, there were these random old men in the hallways sweeping. Don’t know what they’re there for. And there were people of many different races. In Japan it was weird to see anybody who wasn’t Japanese and wasn’t a tourist. My first class was attendance class. It was for getting homework done and taking attendance. Hence the name. “What’s your name?” The teacher asked me. “Sato Kuasaki” “My name is Mr. Guildenstern, your sitting over there” he pointed towards a desk with two chairs on the side of the classroom that was opposite from the door. I nodded and made my way over there. There were about 15 minutes till classes started. I considered taking out my phone but I think that it’s a rule you can’t have your phone out during the school day. So I sat there for a full 15 minutes doing nothing. Students of all different grade levels eventually started to filter in as the time got closer to 8:30. The seat next to me was still empty. The bell rung and all the seats were filled besides the on next to me. Mr. Guildenstern was about to start class when a girl with milk chocolate colored skin, and fluffy brown hair that was only a few shades darker ran in at full speed into the classroom. “Sorry I’m late Mr. Guildenstern!!!-“ she said, she offered a pass to him. “Charlie, it’s the first day, you don’t need a pass!!” He laughed. From the way their taking they must have known each other already. “Take it anyways!!!” She argued, shoving it into his hands. Dhe looked around the room. She looked in my direction and we locked eyes. She had light blue eyes. Her eyes were striking, almost like she could see straight through me. She blinked really fast then looked away and then at the seat next to me. She set her stuff down and sat next to me. Smiling at me. Me Guildenstern started talking about the rules of the classroom. She turned her head towards me. “Hey, I never caught your name?” She said quietly. “I didn’t throw it” I stated. Not sure how to respond she was making me nervous for some reason. She snickered “Well? You gonna keep it a secret forever or are you gonna tell me?” “Sato.” “It’s a pleasure to meet you Sato” She grinned.
