✰ Hello! Here’s part 2 in my sewing basics series! Today I will be showing you how to sew darts in pants! ✂ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - »» What is a dart? A dart is a (usually) triangular shaped fold in fabric used to help a garment fit better. On to the tutorial! ✂ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1. Here is an example of pants that are in need of darts, you can tell by the gap at the back. 2. To fix this, put on your pants inside out and pinch the excess fabric into 2 even triangle shapes like this. Once you’re happy with the placement, pin/mark the area and take them off. 3. here is what mine looks like on a real pair of pants. 4. You will now want to mark a line from the top of the pants (where the amount of fabric being taken in is the largest) to where you want the bottom of the dart to be. (Make sure to do this to both sides!) Depending on the desired fit, the darts may be longer or shorter than mine. A shorter dart will make the bottoms stick out a little more, better for looser fitting pants or skirts. A longer dart will blend in, so better for tighter fitting pants or skirts. 5. For sewing darts, I recommend doubling up your thread like this, so it’s more secure. 6. Using backstitch, sew along the line you made. (Again, do it on both sides) If there is a lot of excess fabric, feel free to trim it. But in his case I just left it ^^ 7. Turn your pants the right way through. This is what it should look like from the back! ✂ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - And they’re done! I hope this was helpful, feel free to ask me any questions you might have. I’m happy to help! ~Lemon
