Chapter 1 “Are you sure it is okay? It’s been a long time since they fell.” “I think so but it looks pretty beat up. It hasn’t moved yet though.” Quartz had listened to the voices for ages and was tired of hearing them talk about her but her body had been too sore to move for a while. Finally, she could move her legs so she opened her eyes. In front of her were 2 hyenas, well that’s what Quartz thought they were until she saw the massive wings coming out of their backs and the long horns on their heads. The hyenas, or whatever they were, flew away as soon as Quartz started to sit up. One seemed to zoom away so fast that Quartz blinked and they were gone. Quartz stared at her surroundings, wondering where she was. The trees were tall and there was fog blowing over the ground. Out of the corner of her eye, Quartz saw movement. She turned and saw the tip of a tail slip behind a tree. The tail had looked awfully similar to a snake’s. Quartz tried to stand up but her back legs were still too weak to hold her. Quartz started at the tree, the forest eerily silent. Then, a head popped out from the same tree. But the head wasn’t a snake’s head, it was a cat’s. Quartz was confused but that quickly turned to fear when the rest of the cat slipped out from behind the tree and started to slink towards her. Quartz got ready to defend herself, propping herself up on a rock so her front paws were clear to fight. Though as the cat got closer, Quartz was more and more confused. The body and head resembled a cat but the tail was long and slick. There was also an unusual ring of fur around the neck. But that wasn’t the most terrifying part of the creature. The thing that scared Quartz the most was the long fangs she could see coming out of the mouth.
