“May the odds be ever in your favor, sister.” One by one, cats shuffled into the center of the town. Doomsday. This was the day of the reaping, yet somehow he didn’t feel nervous. He instinctively knew that something was going to happen. Something that could change his entire life. His adoptive parents came to him a while ago, wishing him good luck, though they didn’t sound fully convincing. Maybe they were looking forward to getting rid of him. Maybe. Now, he spotted them with Stargaze, who has been his mortal enemy from the very beginning. Then he heard Stargaze's voice. "...I have a predicament for you.” Without meaning to, he glanced up and met Stargaze's eyes. To his credit, living with her for almost 10 years helped him know exactly what she was thinking. She was going to volunteer, and if she won, she was going to kick him out. Sure enough, his so-called sister’s voice rang out. “I volunteer.” This gave him an idea. He was risking his own life, and he had a low chance of surviving, but it was a split-second decision. He said the words that changed his life, and probably not in a good way. “I volunteer as well.” His voice rang through the crowd, loud and clear. Then silence followed, only to be broken by Tealeaf’s wailing. Too bad. His parents lost both of their kids in just one day. And Stargaze... Her life was wasted for sure. His volunteering ruined everything for her. He smirked at Stargaze. “May the odds be ever in your favor, dear sister.”
