JWC Leader Applications 2023 ━ ━ ━ ✧ ⋮ Introduction Hello and welcome! Here are the leader apps for our second session of January Writing Camp. :) JWC is an annual writing camp on scratch. Campers make a word goal for themselves to reach during the month, and there are daily and weekly activities that you can do to earn points. Campers are sorted into cabins, and they compete to earn the most points for their cabin by the end of the session. The camp runs in UTC time from January 1st to January 31st. Please read the entire FAQ in notes and credits, so you understand how everything works. Let's see what the cabins are! ✧ ⋮ Cabins - Journalist Cabin (Non-Fi) - Rebel Cabin (Dystopian) - Knight cabin (Fantasy) - Sleuth cabin (Mystery) - Pirate Cabin (Hi-Fi) - Droid Cabin (Sci-Fi) There are “sibling” cabins which are used for cabin wars. Cabin wars are an activity where cabins launch writing challenges at other cabins. Siblings are cabins that generally work together and don't “war” each other. There aren't rules for this, however. Cabins can choose to war their siblings if the leaders decide they want to. There are also enemy cabins. Enemy cabins generally attack each other during cabin wars, but again, it is up to the (co)leaders of each cabin what their strategy is. The rest of the cabins are neutrals. Here are the cabin relationships: - Journalist Cabin (Non-Fi) … Siblings with Rebel. Enemies with Droid. - Rebel Cabin (Dystopian) … Siblings with Journalist. Enemies with Knight. - Knight cabin (Fantasy) … Siblings with Sleuth. Enemies with Rebel. - Sleuth cabin (Mystery) … Siblings with Knight. Enemies with Pirate. - Pirate Cabin (Hi-Fi) … Siblings with Droid. Enemies with Sleuth. - Droid Cabin (Sci-Fi) … Siblings with Pirate. Enemies with Journalist. ✧ ⋮ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) → What do (co)leaders do? (Co)leaders are in charge of a cabin, and they add words for campers. The difference between leaders and co-leaders is that leaders have more responsibility. Leaders add points from the main cabin, and they may be making more decisions. Co-leaders help set up their cabin with the leader they are paired with, and they answer questions for campers. ⠀→ Can I apply for leader and co-leader? Yep! If you apply for leader, you can be chosen to lead a cabin OR if you are not chosen to lead, you will automatically be an applicant for co-leader. But if you apply as a co-leader, you can only be picked as a co. ^^ ⠀→ How are (co)leaders chosen? Leaders will be chosen by the hosts based mostly on your answers to the questions, but also on design. We will decide which cabins each leader is in charge of, and leaders will be notified by us if they are chosen. Co-leaders are chosen by the leaders. Leaders have to ask if a co would like to lead with them, and cos can accept or decline. Leaders can only choose one co (unless they are given an exception by the hosts), and there will be a list of suggested co-leaders to choose from, although those are simply suggestions. ⠀→ Can co/leaders participate in the activities? Of course! Co/leaders can participate in everything that the campers can. :) ⠀→ How often do I have to participate in activities? There's no requirement for how often (co)leaders or campers participate in activities. However, (co)leaders are expected to come online at least once every day to help with their cabin. ⠀→ Where do (co)leaders discuss things? There will be a discussion forum made by the hosts where the leaders can discuss camp-related things. Normally, (co)leaders communicate with their partner in a separate forum for their cabin planning, but it is up to each leader where they talk about their cabin planning. ⠀→ What types of writing count towards my word goal? - Creative writing - Songwriting - Essays - School Assignments - Journaling - Roleplaying - Reports Each word you write during camp counts as one point for your cabin. Feel free to ask if other types of writing count towards your goal. ⠀→ Do I have to write in my cabin's genre? No! It's just a name. You can write in whatever genre you like. ⠀→ What is the competitive aspect? Cabins compete to see who can earn the most points by the end of the session. Campers work as a team in their cabin to gain the most points, and it is a friendly competition. The winners win bragging rights. ⠀→ What if there is a problem between me and another scratcher in camp? Let one of the hosts know right away in a discreet place. We will try to help you with it as soon as we can. ⠀→ How do I apply? Remix this project with your answers to apply. ⠀→ When do the leader signups close? They close on October 28th at 11:59 p.m. UTC time. To apply, submit your app before that time. ⠀→ When are co/leaders chosen? Leaders are chosen after the leader signups close. The leader results will be given on October 31st before 11:59 p.m. UTC time. Co-leaders are chosen after the leader results have been given. Leaders will be able to offer to cos as soon as they are notified that they are leading. Cos MUST WAIT 10 HRS before accepting an offer to see what offers they are given. This means that cos have to wait to accept an offer until November 1st at 9:59 a.m. UTC time. Leaders can only offer to one co-leader unless they are declined, they can then ask someone else. All cos must be finalized on November 5th at 11:59 p.m. UTC time. Feel free to ask any questions you have! We'll try to answer soon. ✧ ⋮ Conclusion If you would like to be notified for camper signups, you can ask to be notified in the comments below. Good luck and remember to have fun! We can't wait to see what you come up with. <33 ⠀→ What is different about JWC compared to SWC? JWC is a smaller community so everyone gets to know each other and bond on a deeper level. We also have a few different activities and events. We have a mix of dailies that focus on improving your writing and learning new things. We also showcase campers' writing and update it regularly. Plus, we are adding a new activity this time around where we have a Writing Fight, which is similar to art fight! We're also doing the Live Results again so we can hang out and play games together one last time. <3 You'll see other things as well that are different. Those are just a few things we do that make JWC unique. ✧ ⋮ Credits - @lady_noir01 for creating the initial idea of JWC - @Dawn_Camps for hosting the first session - All previous leaders for contributing to JWC - @Dawn_Camps and @school4girlhd for hosting this session - @school4girlhd for writing this description and FAQ with some ideas from SAC and SWC (revised slightly by Dawn) - @Dawn_Camps for making the slides - SWC for inspiration
