No stars or moon could be seen that night, due to the billowing clouds that obstructed the sky. These clouds released volleys of snow that battered the young she-cat as she trudged along. Her goal: to reach the safety of the trees to wait out the snowstorm. With a half-empty belly and frostbitten skin, Honey's sheer determination and that alone was what guided her to the nearest tree, where she dug herself a pitiful hole and laid down to sleep. She awoke early the next morning to the sound of muffled, distant voices and the sensation of someone prodding her side. Groggily, she cracked her eyes open to see that the snowstorm has subsided, and two cats were looming over her. The one who had nudged her, a light gray she-cat, shot her a smirk and asked, "Is the snow really that comfortable?" As the clarity of the situation set in on Honey's mind, she staggered backwards and took up a defensive stance. "L-Look," she uneasily growled, "I don't want any trouble." The third cat present, a darker gray male, spoke up to reply. "Of course you don't want any trouble. Neither do we. Just tell us what you're doing on NightClan's land." The loner she-cat stopped crouching. She looked at both cats with a puzzled expression before responding, "What's a night clan?" The two gray cats burst into laughter, leaving Honey dumbfounded and slightly annoyed. Finally, the tomcat, who was first to cease his laughter, explained, "It's not 'a night clan', it's THE NIGHTCLAN!" "And we," the she-cat continued, "are NightClan warriors. My name is Birchpelt." "And I'm Shadefern!" The tom added. Feeling the need to introduce herself as well, Honey smiled casually and spoke her name. "Honey isn't a warrior's name." Shadefern tilted his head and asked, "Are you a kittypet or something?" The golden and brown she-cat snickered and replied, "Oh Heavens NO! I've been a loner for...forever! I would never accept food from Twolegs!" Honey narrowed her gaze and lowered it slightly. "But honestly, I've grown sick and tired of living alone. I'm always having to watch my back when travel, and food is scarce most of the time. It makes me wish that I had some friends..." Birchpelt and Shadefern exchanged looks and smiled at each other, as if they knew something that Honey did not. "Why don't you come back to the NightClan camp with us?" Birchpelt suggested. "Just to see what it's like to live with others? I'm sure our leader would welcome you, and if you don't like it you can always leave." Honey paused for a moment to contemplate the choices before flashing a charismatic grin. "Lead the way!"
