I am personally a big fan of arcade games and retro games from the 80s, including Galaga, Donkey Kong, Blaster Master, and many more. I am also very fond of space themed video games (Space Invaders, Galaga, etc.) so I decided to make a game where you have to defend the earth from an oncoming asteroid strike! When I showed it to my friend EDawg3457 (go check him out!), he said it reminded him of the game "Asteroids" from the Atari 2600. That's what inspired me to make the explosions sound like they came from the atari.
