I really like this art piece too, I think it looks super cute <33 short bio: Name: Cobalt, female, ghost-cat, Slate (tail) Likes: trees, shadows, Halloween Dislikes: the sun, dogs, other animals Backstory: I padded softly through the trees, pausing in between steps to inhale the fresh scent of pine trees. it was chilly, winter winds whipping my fur into a frenzy. My tail, Slate, growled threateningly. There was nothing behind me though, and I shook my head nervously. But then a group of large animals with two legs sprang upon me! The Masked Ones! They trapped me and Slate, and in my haste to escape I broke one of my head-wings on the hard rocky ground. The last thing I remembered was them taking me somewhere dark and damp… When I woke, Slate was staring at me. “Agh!” I yelped. “You scared me!” “Cobalt,” Slate replied worriedly, “We need to get out of here. I heard the Masked Ones talking about selling you to some scientists so they can experiment on you- I have no idea what those are, but they sound bad!” I winced in pain. “Well, how are we gonna get out of here?” “You really have no idea?” Slate stared at me even harder. “Cobalt, when you fell and broke your head-wing, you flickered out of sight for a moment. When the Masked Ones tried to grab you, you passed through their paws the first time. Cobalt, your part ghost! You can just slip out of the cage with me!” I paused. “Really? Okay, let's do it!” We tried, again and again, ramming my shoulder into the cage I was trapped in. Finally, on the 20th or so try, we did it! Half my body pushed through the cage! I squeezed out the rest on the way, and we ran to the dim light near a doorway. As we broke out, there were hundreds more cages lining the hallway. Some of the residents were disfigured, other looked mentally unstable. Me and Slate shuddered, both of us thinking “that could have been me.” Just as we were about to break into the pale moonlight, though, a voice called to us. “Help- please!” The voice reminded me painfully of the night my parents disappeared. I had arrived back home after a long day of hunting, only to find them gone without a trace. I hesitated. the exit was so close! but i couldn’t just leave the poor animals there! making up my mind, i dashed back to where the voice came from, hoping against hope that the Masked Ones wouldn’t notice i was gone for a while longer. My heartbeat racing, I got to the cage. I saw there were actually two animals- and they were my species! “We've been starving for a while now- our ghost powers are too weak to get out,” one explained. I nodded, and fumbled with the latch on the cage. Just as I got it free, i heard a loud voice call “GET THEM!” “RUN!!” i screamed at the ghost-cats. Despite their bad state, they caught up with me in no time with their longer legs and soon overtook me. Just as we burst into the night air, a Masked One grabbed Slate and pulled us back! “COBALT!” i heard the others screech, just before they flung themselves onto my attacker. It left, crying out in pain and dropping me onto the dirt. We ran like crazy until we got to my home, and then we sat, panting for breath. It was then that I got a good look at the other ghost-cats. “M… Mom? Dad?” My parents grinned at me, and we hugged each other, sobbing, for a long time. When we finally broke apart, we caught each other up on what had happened late into the night. It turns out my parents had been captured in the same way I had- they had gone looking for me after I had been hunting for a few hours, and the Masked Ones caught them.
