The day I realized what I was, I was being chased by a gang of school bullies. If I recall the memory clearly, it was two boys and two girls, on their neon mountain bikes, chasing me through a forest. "Come on Evie!" They taunted me. "Don't be shy!" But I knew if I stopped, I would be in big trouble. Stumbling over rocks and crunchy red leaves, I sped towards the railroad tracks at the end of the forest. If I lost the bullies there, I could follow the tracks back to my house. When I reached the tracks, the bullies skidded their bikes to a stop. One of them cracked their knuckles threateningly. "You're at the wrong place, Evie." One of the girls said. She shoved me towards the tracks. I lost my footing and fell on the tracks, banging my head. "Owww." I said, clutching my head. I tried to get back up, but another one held me down. "HELP!" I screamed to no one in particular. My heart sank. I knew nobody was going to help me. We were too far out in the woods for anyone to see or hear. I heard a train noise in the distance. "Nobody will see you ever again." Said the girl who had shoved me. "It's too late now." She grinned as one of her friends tied me to the rail. I struggled, desperate to get out. You might be wondering: Why are these kids so cruel? Who would attempt to do something like that? If only I could explain why they came after me that day. The tracks started vibrating. As the kids laughed at me, I got out my pocket knife and began to cut the ropes from behind me. I jumped up. "HAH!" But the kids only laughed harder. I looked to my right. A train was coming right at me. I screamed, holding out my hands as I braced myself for the blow... But nothing happened. The train passed right through me. I lowered my hand, gaping at it. I turned to the kids. "RUN!" One of them yelled. "She's a GHOST!" They sprinted to their mountain bikes and pedaled away as fast as they could. One of the boys turned, glaring at me with pure horror and hatred. "You're a freak, Evelyn Haynes." He pedaled away. And no, I'm not a ghost. I'm simply... different. A power no one else possesses, one that can be used for good and bad. I can go through things. I am invincible.
