This works by making a polygon with 360*10^precision sides so it is really close to a circle and does pi=c/d c=circumference d=diameter This is the same way Archimedes calculated pi and is still the best way to calculate it. Archimedes found that making a polygon, and break it up into triangles then arranging the triangles into a rectangle then measuring that is, even now, the best way to find pi.
