Well, time for another busy day… Captain Lily thought. She’d been up almost the whole night. She fell asleep on her desk one time, but only for an hour or so, until she was awoken because of her alarm clock which seemed to malfunction. She got up from her desk drowsily and realized that her notes and papers were scattered all around her room. Did she accidentally knock them off the table while she was asleep? Eh, maybe. She tried not to think about that too much. She started cleaning up her room when there was a knock on the door. “Come in,” she said. A white crewmember entered. “Lily, the radar spotted a new planet a few miles away… it seems to be able to suit our species. In fact, there’s already life there! Should we land?” “It would be good if we landed… the ship could use some repairing. Sure, you can set the course to this new planet,” Lily responded. “Great! We’ll be landing in a few days or so.” The white crewmember said. “But there is something else in the path of the ship… what do you want us to do about it?” “Is it a threat?” “We’re not sure yet… it’s not exactly on a crash course towards us..” “It could be some kind of space debris,” Lily answered, but she wasn’t too confident when she said it. They debated about the object for a while longer, then the white crewmember exited the room. Lily quickly sorted the scattered papers into organized piles, and left the room as well to go to the Cafeteria. News spread quickly about the new planet. The Cafeteria was bustling with crewmates chattering and eating. A few greeted her as she passed by. She didn’t like getting too much attention as it made her nervous, but what choice did she have as the literal captain of the ship? Lily grabbed a tray and got some food, then settled to a table with her friend and four other crewmates. “Hey Lily! How’s it going?” A blue crewmember greeted. “It’s all going well, just a little stressed out,” Lily answered. “Stressed out?” “Yeah, there’s been a lot of turbulence and intergalactic movement detected nearby…” “Well, hopefully you get that figured out.” “Thanks, Luna.” As Luna walked away, Lily could’ve sworn she saw the tiniest hint of a smirk on her face. It was so imperceptible Lily thought she was imagining things. It was probably because she didn’t get enough sleep last night… ~To be continued~
