Hi there! If you don't know me, my name is Adelia and I'm thirteen. I'm a writer and a poet, and I use writing to express opinions and ideas. And today, this is my idea: I hate unkindness and bullying, y'know why? ''Hurting someone's feelings is like denting a box. You can smoothen it and varnish it and paint it, but the crease marks will be here forever.'' - Adelia, 11/11/22 Much focus has been on online bullying, but I want to bring people to a simple reality. I'm not saying that it isn't important to stop online bullying. But you can turn your phone off. Delete Insta and T1ktok and all the others. But you can't get away from real people who hate you. The fact that they know a lot about you and are deciding to hate you, unlike trolls, is the tipping point for me. So I wrote a poem about words. How they hurt. How 'roasting' and 'violations' (is this familiar in your secondary school) can seem harmless and funny but how would you feel if you were, let's say that girl with big dreams who hides them all? That boy trying to fit in? The new kid in class with a 'weird' accent who gets verbally beaten up every day? I wanted to write a poem with my thoughts on bullying, entitled: The Bridge. This shows that fear and anxiety of the victims and also the bullies, but it also shows how both of their 'bridges' buckle but don't break as they go through the cycle of self-realisation. I decided to draw a visualisation of my poem. It's all made in SVE, including the TN, which I am quite proud of. The writing was all by me, so was the art. Guys, please enjoy this poem of optimism and hope, as I worked hard on it. [cont.]
