Press space/stage if needed if you read all of this you wont need to. I need title ideas so if you have any suggestions please comment and I will put up a poll for the most popular. “I can’t do it” complained Jonathan with a scowl. “It won’t come as easy as you think,” his mentor, Lhin, said calmly, “try again.” Lhin demonstrated the proper form. “See.” She said. As Jonathan tried to imitate her movements, he failed. As he tried more, he failed more, causing a rising burn of anger. It came to Lhin so easily so why would it not come for him; he was supposed to have the gift of the water! Jonathan cringed when a pang of guilt washed over him. He knew his anger should not be directed towards Lhin; it wasn’t her fault. She however, had the gift of the water. The gift Jonathan should have. The gift he had been training to have since he was old enough. So why did it not come? That was why Lhin was here. She was one of the most powerful water mages to ever live in Jonathan’s village and, despite being young at only 16, was wise far beyond her years. She had manifested young, only 10, and Jonathan grew up hearing stories of her. He had set high expectations for himself; ones he could not meet. Lhin had been sent to train him after he turned 14 with no sign of his magic emerging. It was local tradition that once a Defined Child (children found at birth to have magic) was old enough and had manifested, they would be sent to the Academy to train and develop their skills and learn to use them for the tribe. The Academy was a school of the utmost prestigious and only a select few of the village were sent there. The water mages. The manifesters. The holy children. Called by many names these are the gifted children of each village who each attend the academy. “Jonathan” Lhin said with a creeping tone of annoyance. “Yes, sorry” Jonathan replied, ripped from his thoughts. Lhin’s expression changed ever so slightly to an emotion Jonathan could not decipher. “Have I ever told you the tale of the Mage Lark?” she inquired. “Um no I do not believe so.” “Let me tell you then.” And so Lhin started her story. Lhin told Jonathan this story in hope that he would not turn out like this poor lost soul of a Mage. “It all began some time ago before you or I were born. There was a Defined Child by the name of Lark who, much like you, manifested late. His case was the first of its kind and the elders of our village had not the slightest idea what to do as Lark turned 14 and he was the only of the Defined not to have the gift. The elders worried that he would never receive the gift and that the gods were angry with them. But as not to worry the youngling the elders busied themselves with work of the other mages. Lark grew angry watching many of his friends manifest and train without him. HE manifested at the age of 16 and was far being the others as they had been training for almost three years at that point. Lark put… his own spin on the lessons taught at the Academy. He practiced his magic in inhumane and illegal ways.” Lhin paused and took a shaky breath, then continued, “Lark sought revenge on those who had not believed in him. Then one day, just like that,” she snapped, “gone.” I hope you liked this comment if you want to see page two! I tried to put page two up here and it yelled at me for being too long XD.
PAGE TWOOOOOO “That’s… horrible” Jonathan whispered slightly frightened. He had never heard this story and now knew why. “Yes, it is” Lhin said sadly. This story of Lark made Jonathan work even harder than he ever had. He trained. The studied. he worked hard. The day finally came when Jonathan manifested, and he had never been happier. Jonathan was overly excited with his new power, using it to pick things up and throw them and just play and experiment. Lhin was happy for Jonathan, but worried for his next steps into training as a water mage. As Jonathan’s training continued, Lhin was in charge of making sure he stayed on the right path. She was very careful to keep Jonathan busy in the coming weeks of training. As Lhin pushed Jonathan harder in training, he was failing more to keep his temper in check. Jonathan got angry more often. Lashed out more often. Yelled more often. Or was just annoying more often. Lhin was getting tired of this. The Academy, the elders, the teachers, Lhin. None of them had any idea what to do about Jonathan. He was doing poorly in his classes, and his teachers said that it wasn’t because he lacked motivation to work hard. So, what was is. Things like this was why Lhin was still there. It was hard in their private lessons. To get him to cooperate or listen was hard enough. But to train him. But one day the worst of all Lhin’s fears became a reality. Jonathan was mad that Lhin was pushing him to practice more, and he lashed out at her. He did something Lhin had no idea he would ever be capable of. He controlled her. Not with his words and used his power. The pain for Lhin was excruciating. She fell to her knees. Even though she only experienced the pain for seconds, she felt as though she had been run over by a horse. Jonathan was horrified. He had no idea what he was capable of. But he never wanted to find out. Jonathan turned and ran. He didn’t know where he would go, but he knew he had to get away from this place. He would fake his death. He would run away. He would do something. Even now, a year later, Jonathan worried that we would be found. Accused of torture. Killed. But he had survived to turn 15 and if someone was out to find him, they surely would have by now. Right? Jonathan shook off the thought and continued walking down the half-concealed path that led to a river in the forest. The forest that had been his home for a little less than a year by now. “There you are,” a sharp accented male voice said from above him. “I was hardly hiding” Jonathan responded. “I know that” the voice said sounding defeated, “but you disappeared this morning and you told me you’d help with the firewood.” “Well, I found that last night someone forgot to fill the water supply.” “You’re accusing me! How ever could you think that?” he said dramatically, “I thought we were friends!” Jonathan rolled his eyes. “Come down from up there Luke” Jonathan replied, exasperated. Jonathan searched the trees for any sign of his white-blond hair or blue eyes. Despite having such bold features, Luke could really blend in with his environment. Luke dropped down from the tree and stood beside Jonathan. “I’m here.” He said. SO. This is all I have right now so once i have more I WILL post it. Please tell other friends about this I REALLY want it to be more noticed.
