Warriors: A Fan-Based Series Book 1: Snowballing Troubles Chapter 3 Part 1 Snowball woke up. He lifted up his head and sniffed the air cautiously. The strong scent of herbs filled his nose, making him cringe at the smell. However, behind all of that, he smelt a cat. Snowball tried to sit up and move around, but his whole body ached, especially his neck. He also felt the stickiness of cobwebs on his fur. “You might want to keep still for the time being, or your wounds will get worse,” some cat mewed. Snowball jumped at the sound. Turning his head to the side, he saw Speckledfur. The medicine cat reached for some poppy seeds, giving them to Snowball. “Poppy seeds,” Speckledfur said, “that’ll numb the pain from your wounds.” Snowball scrunched his nose up at the sound of eating herbs but he picked up the poppy seeds and ate them. But…where am I? Snowball still wondered. As though reading his mind, Speckledfur answered his thoughts. “You’re in the Medicine Den.” She turned her back to Snowball, sorting out her herbs. “Where’s Acorntree?”Snowball remembered and asked. Speckledfur hesitated. Snowball waited patiently, tucking his tail beside his legs. Speckledfur sighed and sat next to Snowball. “I’m very sorry to say this, Snowball,” she started, shifting uncomfortably. “But Rainstar killed Acorntree after seeing him try to kill you.” Snowball let the words sink in, and when they finally did, his heart felt as though it was heavy and pulling him down with it. It was falling, falling, falling… and at last, when it hit the bottom, he was filled with sadness he could not imagine. “S-so he’s dead too? Like my father?” Hot tears flowed down his cheeks in rivulets. Sobbing quietly, he cried, “Why, MoonClan, why…?” Speckledfur’s shoulders drooped. She glanced at him, her face full of remorse. “I’m sorry,” she said softly. She looked down at the ground. “It’s not your fault, Speckledfur,” Snowball said, wiping his tears away. Well, it’s my fault that Acorntree is dead and Crystalpaw will never be a warrior. Snowball thought about leaving the clan when his wounds healed, but he knew that it would be of no use. The regret and remorse would never leave him. Suddenly, Speckledfur jumped to her paws. Her ears perked up and she straightened up quickly. “A message from MoonClan,” she muttered loudly. “A raven of darkest night covered in blood, cats from all clans dying as they battle.” Snowball gasped. “A sign!” he exclaimed. The medicine cat nodded. “I have to speak to Rainstar now,” she said, running out of the den. After Speckledfur left, Snowball sat in the Medicine Den alone. He felt sad and lonely as he sat in the gloomy den, feeling as though he had never experienced happiness before. Why Acorntree? I’m the one at fault. Snowball thought downheartedly. He moaned in sorrow for his brother before fatigue overtook him and he curled up, falling asleep. Snowball felt something tickling his nose. He opened his sleepy eyes to see a brown tail in front of his nose. His nose started to itch. “Ah-achoo!!” he sneezed. The tail shot to the side. “Whew! I knew that would work!” Snowball heard a familiar voice. Looking to his right, he saw Acorntree who sat there, smiling.
